See Through - Pentatonix

"Nightmares about your dad?" I asked her a bit confused. She hasn't had any contact with him lately, right?

I felt Liz nod. "Yeah. They're basically all the same but the scenarios change."

"What was this one about?" I asked her while making sure I didn't push her.

"I was in front of my old house. And I was nervous, as if I had done something wrong. It was getting darker so I decided to go in. My dad was watching TV. He heard me come in and knew that I'd done something wrong. I tried to flee by running upstairs but he followed me until I couldn't run anywhere." I felt Liz slowly getting more and more tense. "I ran to my room on the second floor but I couldn't hide..." She stopped talking as if she was figuring out what to say. Liz slowly looked up at me "He tried to push me out of the window. He was actually really close to succeeding. That's why I punched you... "

"And you've been having those dreams nearly every night?" I asked her softly.

Liz nodded again. "It started a while back but it has gotten more frequent."

For a second I tightened my arm around her and whispered "He's not here. And if it gets really bad we could get sleeping pills."

Her eyes widened for a second and she quickly responded "No, it's fine."

Too quickly. Not only her response was weird. Her heart began to beat a little faster as well. "Are you scared of sleeping pills?" I asked her amused.

"No..." she said as if it was a question. "I'm scared of taking pills in general."

"You're scared... of taking pills?" I asked with a grin "How can you be scared of that?"

"Well my throat gets all dry and I can't swallow them. They'll dissolve in my mouth and that tastes nasty. Or I just stare at them for a minute thinking of any possible way for it to get stuck in my throat." She defended.

"So what did you do when you got a headache?" I asked her.

"Sit it out."

"And what if the teacher send you to the nurse?"

"They barely knew me."

I stared at her. For some reason I'd expected to hear something else. I knew that she hadn't gotten any help when she was little. But for some reason I expected the teachers to have done something.

"I don't know about you, but I've always been the silent girl in the back of the classroom. There's actually once been a teacher who asked who I was in the middle of class. That was a few weeks before the summer vacation." Liz said with a smile. True story

I smiled back. She was opening up to me. I should tell her something about me. She most likely doesn't know anything or just facts from Stiles, which aren't as reliable as you'd think. "I wish some teachers hadn't seen me back then. I used to be pretty popular." Liz's eyebrows shot up. "I was in the basketball team and had quite a group of friends..."

Liz's POV

Derek told me some stuff about his past. As I thought, he hadn't been a silent type. I listened to him and occasionally asked some questions. He told me about his friends, about Peter and just some random stories from the basketball team. After a while we went quiet again, both caught up in our own thoughts.

"Honestly, I didn't think you would do it. I didn't think you would kiss me. Since when do you like me?" Derek asked softly.

"Well technically I didn't kiss you. You kissed me."

Derek rolled his eyes with a grin on his face and nudged me for being a dork.

"Fiiiine, I've liked you for a long time, I just never realized it."

"When did you realize it?" Derek asked genuinely interested.

"You made me realize it." I whispered with a grin "You probably remember the times I tested my theory. I was pretty weird. You planted the theory of you liking me right after you picked me up at the murder."

Derek still wasn't catching on so I continued "You gave me a hug. That's how I knew."

"You got that from a hug?" He asked.

"Yeah. I once read something about body language and I happened to remember that there. Here," I said while slowly pulling him up to sitting position. "hug me as if I was a family member."

"But you are a family member." He said softly and with a cute small genuine smile.

I couldn't help myself and grinned like an idiot. That one simple sentence had much more underlying emotion than I'd thought. "Thank you." I whispered.
