"Don't get into any trouble." Nicholas warned his niece from the driver seat just as he pulled into the school parking lot.
"We'll see." Carmin leaned her head against the heated glass window, not really caring for the burning sensation that pierced her skin because of it.
School.
It wasn't the academic part of it that bothered her, but more so the people she'd be forced to encounter. The people she'd be forced to speak to.
"Try and make a friend?" Nicholas suggested, hoping he'd receive a direct answer rather than a probability. "It's your first day of Senior year. Try to get out there."
Carmin let out a long sigh. The curls that covered her forehead breezed forward."Bye Nic."
"You've got an appointment with Dr.Jones afterschool. I'll be here to pick you up." He reached over to unbuckle her seatbelt before grabbing her backpack from beside her feet and passing it to her.
"How fucking exciting!" She screamed with as much enthusiasm as she could possibly muster. So, not much enthusiasm.
Nicholas chuckled. He took hold of her nose and slowly pulled her forward until his lips brushed against her forehead.
"Ew. Don't put your saliva on my face." She spat pushing him away and opening the car door.
"Oh...my little chocolate drop is getting too old for my affection." He teased, using her dark complection and height as leverage for the nickname.
Carmin climbed out of the car with her bag over her shoulder. "Go suck on a di-"
Nicholas stopped her before she could finish ."I already did last night my smart niece."
"I hate you."
"I love you to my little chocolate drop." Carmin slammed the door shut and sauntered off towards the entrance.
The empty halls were a clear indication of tardiness. It was her own fault for locking her bedroom door and down right refusing to leave the house.
Carmin pulled her schedule from her backpack and stomped with the intent of breaking her own legs when she saw that her first period was up the stairs. She wanted more than ever to just sneak back home. It would have been the perfect opportunity.
Nicholas was already on his way to work and wouldn't be back for hours. But she knew the school would call when they realized she hadn't shown up.They were keeping tabs on her. So today, although it went against her personal preference,
she had to oblige by the rules."I fucking hate it here. I fucking hate it her. I fucking hate it here." Carmin chanted this phrase over and over as she sluggishly trudged up the stairs.
Room 205 came into view much to her irritation. English class was perhaps the worst of them all. The amount of talking involved was too much for young Carmin to endure.
A silence hindered over the room as she swung the door open without much of a warning.
"Miss you're late." An older fellow, who she assumed to be the teacher stopped his writing on the board and turned to face her.
"I got lost." She shrugged, closing the door behind her, avoiding the gazes of the nosy students.
"What's your name?"
