(Elphaba POV)

The sun was shining, warm and bright as I make my way down to breakfast adjusting to the unfamiliar riding garb. Today is going to be my first riding lesson, and I am not sure I am ready for it.

As I enter the kitchen Cook looks up and smiles. "Good morning Elphaba. I see you will be having your first riding lesson today."

"Yes ma'am." I nod go towards the door leading outside from the kitchen.

"And where do you think you are going, young lady?" She asks snapping her large stirring spoon in front of me to halt me.

"I'm going riding." I say a little annoyed as we had just established that.

"Not on an empty stomach. Now you sit down right there at the kitchen table, and I'll get you something to eat." It's an order, not a request, and so I take a seat.

"But I'm not hungry!" I protest almost whining.

"That is beside the point!" She says setting a dish of cream of wheat with fruit, a mug of coffee, and some toast in front of me. "You will eat this or else I will force feed you and then tell Glinda you were uncooperative." She fixes me with a glare. "You know she will not be happy with you if you don't eat, and I agree! You are way too skinny! Now eat!"

Sighing I take a bite as Cook watches me. I know then she intends to make sure I eat every last bite. "The food is good." I say quietly, and she smiles. "Glad you like it. Once you are finished you can go down to the stables."

I finish off the breakfast in about fifteen minutes and make my way down to the stables. I can hear old Jake giving orders to some of the stable hands. "Good morning, Jake." I say as I approach him.

"Ahh! Good morning Elphaba, and how are you this morning?" He smiles as he turns to face.

"Quite well, thank you. How are you?" I smile.

"Very well or at least as well as these old bones of mine can be. Now come along, and we will get you started on your riding lesson." He leads me out the back of the barn and down a little ways to the corral. "You will be riding Turin." He slips under the fence into the corral, and takes the reigns of the horse that has been saddled for me.

I follow him into the corral and slowly approach Turin. "Hello Turin," I say quietly and hold my hand out for him to sniff. He sniffs it, then nuzzles making a knicker sound.

"He likes you, and that's a good thing." He smiles. "Now I want you to place your left foot in this stirrup here while you hold the saddle here." I do as I'm told and he smiles. "Good, and now just pull yourself up."

I try to pull myself up, but can't seem to get it. I try again, and again can't seem to pull myself up. Growling I let go and rice my foot from the stirrup. "I can't get it." I tell Jake.
