"My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh." Proverbs 4:20-22.

Studying the bible helps us have a better understanding of God's word. His word is life! So I'm going to give some of my helpful tips to studying the bible.

So at first it may seem overwhelming. Don't get discouraged! Its super simple so to start of, pray about it. Prepare your heart. Talk to God about things you may need to confess or learn about.

Now you need to make sure you have everything you need. Have all materials ready when you are about to study. Obviously you need your bible, but some other things you may need are your bible dictionary or any regular dictionary, concordance, a writing implement and a notepad or notebook.

So when you start, there is no wrong place to start. Say you're dealing with a specific topic, flip to your concordance and locate the topic or words to see which scriptures talk about those things. The Holy Spirit will lead you and reveal things to you.

Okay so now that you started reading the bible where you want to, write down scriptures. It helps you to remember the verses. Take notes on major ideas that pop out to you. It really helps. Also try reading several different versions and translations. Some show more about some topics.

Studying the bible is not just to accumulate knowledge. Let God use his word to cause a real change in your attitude. Its a life long process. Remember to make time to spend with God's word. Make a reading plan.
