TO SAY WE WERE IN A MESS WAS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. Mr. Whittemore had taken out a restraining order for Jackson against Scott and Stiles — preventing them from going within fifty feet of our Kanima friend. Melissa had been left with no option but to ground Scott — banning him from seeing Stiles — and I'd walked into the Stilinski household to see the Sheriff going to town on Stiles.

We'd messed up — badly — and we weren't any closer to figuring out how to help Jackson.

The only positive thing we had going for us was that Allison found out Lydia could translate Archaic Latin and had been able to translate a section of the Bestiary for us. That was what led us to where we were now, Scott, Stiles and I hiding behind a bookshelf in the school library as Allison passed a tablet through the books from the other side of the bookcase.

Now that Gerard had updated the security system around here and inserted actual working cameras we had to be extra vigilant — Scott and Allison especially. I'd spent my entire morning trying to find blind spots in the cameras but I was almost sure I was failing miserably. It left us hiding behind bookcases, talking to each other through the openings in the books.

As Stiles appeared occupied in reading while Scott and I pretended to search for books, I looked over my friends shoulder as he looked down to the black tablet in his hand. I saw the page about the Kanima in the Bestiary and besides the cursive foreign language was a transition into English.

Oh, and we'd also found out that the Kanima seeked a master and not a friend — but that didn't matter.

"It's everything Lydia can translate." Allison told us as I read what had been translated.

I tried to skim read it to get an understanding of the writing, my eyes flickering over pieces that said the Kanima was once used by a South American priest who wanted to rid his village of murderers — hence where the Kanima originated from and it's thing with hunting down murderers. The further down the page I skimmed I noticed the story of how the priest and the creature bonded until I saw where it said 'The Kanima is a mutation of the werewolf gene that cannot fully transform until it resolves that in its past which manifests it'.

"Trust me, she was very confused." Allison added quietly.

"Yeah?" Scott asked as he looked to her through the opening in the books we'd created, "What'd you tell her?"

"That we were part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures."

I shook my head then as Stiles said, "I am part of an online gaming community that battles mythical creatures."

"Oh." Allison said then in shock and she glanced to me fleetingly, "Great."

"Look, just telling her the truth would've been better than telling her that." I said then to them all.

"We can't." Scott told me, "Not yet, not until we can find out who's controlling Jackson." I groaned in annoyance as he added, "Is there anything about how to find out who's controlling him?"

"Not really, but Stiles and Alex are right about the murderers." Allison said.

"Yes." Stiles cheered quickly, pumping the air with his fist in celebration.

"It calls the Kanima a weapon of vengeance." Allison added, "There's a story in there about a South American priest who uses the Kanima to execute murderers in his village."

"Yeah, I saw that." I mumbled, looking back to the tablet as Scott continued to flick through, "Now we know where the whole murderer thing comes from at least."

"All right, see?" Stiles said to us then, "So maybe it's not all that bad."

"I get that you're all about the optimism and positivity at the minute Stiles and I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but it most definitely is bad." I said to him, patting his shoulder lovingly.
