"HELLO MY DARLING, I'VE MISSED YOU."

At first, I was blinded by the brightest light you could imagine. All I could see was white, it was everywhere, but eventually the light began to soften to a point where it was no longer blinding. Regardless, I still had to squint somewhat as I looked around but to no avail, I couldn't see anything. I was completely alone, stuck in an empty space that stretched on for miles.

Where was I?

"Alex."

I turned around again, expecting to see nothing but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my mom standing behind me. She looked as beautiful as ever in her long trench coat, her natural black waves hanging effortlessly over her shoulders but most importantly she was free of any scars from the fire.

"Mom?"

She smiled at me as she stepped forwards and she wrapped her arms around my body, embracing me for the first time in almost 7 years. It felt foreign at first but once I realised how much I'd been longing for this I relaxed completely in her hold and I wrapped my arms around her tightly.

However long we spent in one another's embrace was the best time of my life because this was something I'd been waiting for. I didn't want to pull away but I knew we had to. We stayed close to each other though as she held my arms and looked at me properly, "My god, look at you."

"Mom, what's going on?" I asked her then, "Where am I?"

"You're in surgery." She told me simply, "Have been for three hours."

"Three hours?" I croaked then, my eyes widening, "What—why?"

"Don't you remember, sweetheart?" She asked me then, her brows furrowing in genuine concern, "You got shot."

"I—" I gaped, unsure of what to say while my mind drew a blank of what had happened for me to end up in such a situation. I cast my gaze downwards to see I was wearing my white bandage dress, looking as pristine as ever and suddenly it all came flashing back.

"Now you remember." My mom noted, judging my facial expression, "It's been quite complex for them, the bullet is in an awkward place."

I met her eyes, "But I'm going to be okay, aren't I?"

"Well that's up to you." She told me honestly, "If you're not ready to let go then you fight."

I furrowed my brows as I shook my head, "Fight? How am I supposed to fight?"

"Alex you've been fighting all your life." My mom said then as she cupped my cheek delicately, "You just haven't realised yet."

"What am I fighting?" I asked her, my brows still drawn in.

She shook my head at me as she smiled, "That's something you need to figure out for yourself."

"That's not fair, mom."

"I know." She nodded, "But I can't disrupt your path. That's me messing with the balance and I can't do that, not even for you."

I recoiled my head back in confusion as I tried to wrap my head around her words. It was like she was talking about the natural order but.. surely not?

"The balance?" I questioned her, "You mean the natural order?"

She pressed her lips together and nodded, "There's a plan set in stone for you sweetheart. There's a plan set in stone for everyone and it's created the minute they're born. It's unheard of for a plan to be changed."

"But it can be?" I asked her.

I felt like all I was doing was asking her questions but I needed answers. I had to make complete sense of this before I ran out of time and I didn't know how much of that I had with my mom.
