DEREK MADE STILES PARK down the street. I didn't know what logic was behind his thinking, it only meant I had to walk a father distance to get to my house but according to him if my dad was home and he saw Derek sitting in Stiles passenger seat he'd probably walk out — gun in hand — and kill our werewolf friend off. I didn't see my dad being home, he never normally was after I finished school which was weird because all he did was hunt werewolves through the night.

When Stiles had gotten out to let me out of the Jeep I turned back to Derek with a sigh.

"Remind me what I'm looking for?" I had asked him.

"Honestly?" Derek had said to me before he sighed loudly, "I have no idea."

It wasn't the best start—actually scratch that. It wasn't a start period. Derek was setting me up for failure here I just knew it. I didn't know where my dad stored all those guns, never mind if he still had them or not and even if he did there would be tons of bullets, right? How was I supposed to find just one?

My dad's car wasn't in the drive so that had been a good sign and as soon as I was in the house I tossed my bag on the staircase and ventured into my house. It had been a while since we'd lived here but I remember when I was younger there was a door in the garage that was always locked. I had tried to follow my dad in there once when I was about seven or eight and he shouted at me in response. I had this gut feeling that whatever I needed to find was in that room, it was just the matter of getting in if it was locked.

I opened the door in the kitchen through to the garage and looked for the white painted door. I remembered it to be against the back wall near the corner and I had to move a few boxes we were yet to unpack but I found it. It wasn't the most creative way to hide a door, in fact stacking the boxes there made it an easy find because they were the only two boxes in the garage.

Once I'd gotten them moved and the door was in full view to me I saw a padlock attached to the hatch.

So it wasn't a lock and key door after all.

I pressed my lips together in apprehension before looking out of the side door I'd left open. I had absolutely no idea when my dad would be home and if he came in here and found me trying to guess the code for the padlock he'd know something was up.

I decided to take the chance and I picked the steel lock up in my hands and looked underneath it to see a six number combination.

I pursed my lips, six numbers meant a whole lot of possibilities. I could be here until tomorrow night trying to guess the right combination and I really didn't have time for that. If it was six numbers the probability of it being a memorable date was higher than it being a random number, right?

"Okay." I muttered to myself, attempting to think over the pain I was in with my migraine. I closed my eyes while I conjured up all the dates I thought it would be before I tried the first one.

"Okay." I repeated, exhaling before finding the first number, "09..12..95." I muttered before pulling on the lock. I wasn't surprised when it didn't open, I doubted my dad would've used my birthday as the code but I had to try it anyways.

I moved onto the second one, putting it in.

032470

Nope. So maybe it wasn't my mom's birthday either.

I tried again.

110268

I groaned when my dad's birthday failed. I was running short on combinations and if it wasn't the next one I didn't know what I'd do.
