Chapter 26: Singing in the Sunset

Y/N POV

Everywhere I went there were always eyes on me.

I appreciated that the headmistress was concerned about my safety, but it was making me feel claustrophobic.

I just needed some fresh air and some alone time.

That spot just outside the Leyline tor that me and Joanna were at that one afternoon.

Speaking of Joanna and the news crew, I had promised them I would stop by more often to help.

If not that, then just to talk.

Maybe we could all go to that spot some time.

I really wanted to go there right now though.

By myself.

It wasn't that far off school grounds and I knew I could handle myself.

I just wanted to have some time to think about what was going on.

Yes I had my girlfriends around me and the number of them was increasing almost daily.

I just wanted to be by myself.

You know what I mean?

However, trying to get out of the school proved challenging.

Especially since every corner I turned there was someone there that was tasked with watching me.

After turning the corner again I could see Barbara lingering about.

At this point I just gave up.

I just walked in her direction and she noticed me coming and smiled.

Barbara : Hi Y/N!

I look up at her and reply.

Y/N: H-hi.

I walked past them and continued walking.

I didn't really know what to do now.

I was tired, I was stressed and just wanted to be by myself.

I heard hurried footsteps behind me and felt someone grab my hand.

Barbara: Y/N? Are you ok? You don't look it!

I stop walking and turn to her.

I shake my head and feel my eyes full with tears.

Barbara: Oh no! Please don't cry Y/N!

She throws her arms around me and pulls me into a tight hug.

Y/N: I-I'm j-just getting really stressed out.

Barbara: Is it because of all the people that are watching you?

Y/N: Y-yeah.

Barbara: I can understand that. But you do know it's for your own good right? We love you too much to allow something bad to happen to you.

I nod my head and bring my face level with Barbara's and stare into her eyes.

I never noticed how pretty they were.

Or how relaxing it was to stare into someone's eyes.

Especially someone you love.

I take my hand and gently place it on her cheek.

Barbara: A-ah Y-Y/N?

Y/N: S-sorry.

I take my hand away but feel her grab it and put it back.

Barbara: I-I didn't say take it away.

She lets go of my hand and wraps her other arm around me.

I used my thumb to run it across her cheek.
