"Miku– Hey, Miku!"

"Hmm...?" She hummed, looking up to Komori, who sat opposite her on their lunch table.

"You're spacing out." She pointed out.

"I was?" Miku questioned herself, tilting her head as if she didn't have a clue what she meant.

"You seem out of it, is everything okay?" Kendo asked, in her usual motherly concerned tone.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Miku replied, inching her hand to the cold metal spoon on the school lunch table.

"Are you sure? Ever since you went for your work study, you've been tense. You've barely touched your lunch as well." Her friend retorted, exposing the abnormal eating habits for that lunchtime. Miku was going to accumulate a protest, but she kept it to herself, letting Kendo continue, "If you're ever feeling down, we're here for you."

"Yeah! Of course, that's up to you, but we'll be here whenever you need us." Setsuna added, leaning to her right, where Miku was sitting.

"You don't need to tell us what's wrong if you're uncomfortable, so don't feel like you should force yourself to tell us." Reiko said.

They continued to smother Miku with reassurance, trying to bring Miku's spirits up - even if it was just for a moment. It was as Kendo said, Miku started to act differently after the work study. More tense, more troubled, more distracted; there was the ceaseless moment she was waiting for.

A call. A text. An email.

Anything to alert her about the Shie Hassaikai. She'd expectantly check her phone; hold onto it through the outer fabric to feel any ring or vibration of a notification.

After this day was over, it would have been two days after the meeting. Those from UA were required to be ready at any moment, at any time, for any update for the rescue mission. Whether it was just another meeting, or for completing the arduous task: saving Eri.

Confidentiality wise, it was easy for Miku to keep this mission under wraps. She didn't have anyone in her class who was involved, anyways. It was if she was sworn to secrecy about this entire thing - which was probably what it was. But they were notified not to tell a soul about what they were involved it. It was such an effortless task, even if her classmates wanted to pry on what it was like during work studies. Each first year's answers were filtered to a needle.

Though they all experienced the lurking anxiety of the sudden responsibility they lugged with them. But that's what it's like to be a hero, that's what they collectively agreed to.

"I know you hate it when I say this, but don't worry. I'll always go to you all if I ever feel down, I promise." Miku said, glancing to her left and right, faintly smiling - which definitely reassured her friends. "Anything that happens to me, you'll be the first to know. But I just want to say..."

"I'm glad to have you all as friends."

Tenderly lying on her mattress, there Miku rested. The only flash of light came from between her grey curtains, unfolded to block out the outside. Although the shallow intensity of the beams did not illuminate her entire room, it lowly glowed onto her wooden coffee table. Snuggled up into her pillows, she hugged one tightly, curling into her own body; she instinctually wanted to keep the warmth close, even though it was summer.

She was fading between her pitch black eyelids and her subconscious. It was just one of those days again - she couldn't really tell whether she was asleep or not. In and out of the snippets of dreams.
