Chapter 2

Oriya Deronte

I stood there, with my back turned to him. I have nothing to defend myself with right now. I'm completely vulnerable right now. I left my damn gun in the elevator and my knives are kept on my bedside table.

How did he even get in without father noticing? I stayed silent waiting for him to attack me but it never happened.

"To answer your question, your window was open and just so you know your leg is still bleeding pretty bad." He said and I could just imagine how big his smile would be at the sight. Behind me, I heard some shuffling indicating he wasn't within at least 4 ft. of me. Thank god.

I warily turned around scanning his body for any weapons he may have. His dark hair was messy, as if he had just gone on a run. The collar was done neatly, displaying his neck tattoos perfectly. He was wearing an all black suit with the jacket over his shoulder. The shirt wasn't tucked in on one side, and the opposite cuff was undone. His knuckles were slightly bruised covered in blood that definitely wasn't his. His gun was tucked in his belt.

I stopped there. I needed to get that damn gun.

"Relax, I'm not here to kill you this time." He said, his dark grey eyes looking at my brown ones.

"You just sent some random guy to kill me, cut the bullshit Laurent. Don't act like you don't want me dead." I said. I could feel the blood going down my leg but I didn't care right now.

"There's nothing I want more, but I didn't send whoever that guy was."

"Then how did you know some guy was trying to kill me?"

"I drove past you while I was heading home. I saw you shoot him and the blood on your leg. I wanted to know if you would make it home alive or not." He explained, obviously disappointed that I was alive.

That surprised me. Nobody was foolish enough to start a war with the American Mafia, other than the Italian Mafia. If it wasn't Vincent who sent that guy then there were definitely other people who were trying to kill me. I knew why. The last ball I had attended, it was announced I would soon become leader of the American Mafia.

Ever since, I had received more death threats and my father even warned me that some would actually go through with it. And if Vincent isn't here to kill me, what is he doing here? That was my last thought before my eyes shut and I felt myself falling on the hard ground.

I woke up in my own bed. My father was standing over me and my brother was in his arms also looking down at me.

"What happened last night Oriya?" My father asked. Ryder just nodded along acting he understood what my father said.

"Yeah Owiya." I hate this little shit sometimes.

I knew I couldn't lie to my father anymore. He definitely saw my leg and the gun shot from last night. My eyes widened remembering last night. Vincent was here. Where is he now? Did Father see him? I scanned my room for any signs of him being here. There was nothing that showed anyone but me being here.

"Oriya!" Father snapped, trying to get my attention.

"Oh right sorry- I uh went out for a drive, I was going to let you know but you were already sleeping."

"That doesn't explain your leg Ori" He said, pointing to it.

"Someone went through with their threat I guess."

Suddenly the door burst open, making my Father immediately take out his gun and me grab my knives. In walked, my two best friends, Kena and Sienna. Kena rushed to my side while Siena stood still. She's still deathly scared of my father.

"Oh my god Oriya!" Kena nearly shrieked with wide eyes. Sienna still stood at the door staring at my father.

"You can come in Sienna , I won't kill you," my father said. "We will find out who did this after you guys are done. Come to my office" he demanded as he let Ryder down. I put away my knives as Sienna finally walked in.

"Holy shit Oriya, what happened?" Sienna asked as she also started at my leg.

"Nothing different, just people trying to kill me. Let's go. I want to find out who this guy was." I spoke as I tried to get up. Kena grabbed my arm and helped me walk.

"I tracked down where your car had been using the tracker on it while you were sleeping and sent a few men down to your last location. They informed me that they found the bastard's body and some ID." Father said as he was typing on his computer.

"Tracker? There's a tracker on my car? What?" I asked, shocked as to how I didnt know.

"Of course there is Oriya. I need to know where you are in order to make sure you are safe." He explained.

His phone started ringing again. He picked it up before the second ring even started. What he just said was weird. In the mafia, I didn't grow up with much affection. My father never showed it at all. It's why I try to give Ryder as much love as I can. He's annoying but he's still my little brother and deserves to be loved.

"We found the bastard." He said, anger in his voice. " David Reed, he is a well known assassin. Who he was hired by is still unknown."

"Then make it known father, I want that person dead." I said, irritated.

This man shot me. Nearly killed me. Nobody was foolish enough to do something like this. He must have been getting paid a shit ton of money. Nobody would start a war they knew they couldn't win. They knew they would die. In my whole life, I've only ever had one enemy. Vincent Laurent. The one and only person I cant fucking kill.

"We're trying Oriya and I'm sure we will. In the meantime, do something else."

I nodded my head and turned around to face Sienna and Kena once again. I motioned with my hand for them to follow me out the room and into the kitchen. Mother always told me to eat after an injury to build strength. I miss her.

"So, are you guys excited for the Annual Ball coming up?" Kena squealed.

"It's not even coming up that soon Kena" Sienna said.

The rest of the conservation was muffled in my head. My eyes stayed on the picture hanging in the living room beside the kitchen. The picture of my mother.
