Chapter 3

Oriya Deronte

Sienna and Kena left not long after they talked about the annual ball. Kena is always the most excited about it and prepares months in advance. She still takes the longest to get ready for it. They left to complete a mission assigned by my father.

I got a text a few hours later letting me know the mission was completed and they were going to their own homes to sleep.

That was all yesterday. It's 7AM right now and I woke up to Ryder watching me sleeping from beside my bed. I swear I almost punched that kid. "Father said we have to drop me to school." He says.

Great.

"Alright, get ready and have breakfast. I'll shower and all that fun stuff" I said slightly annoyed since I know who I will inevitably see. It's the reason I hate dropping Ryder off and picking him up from school. I watched as he nodded and ran out my room, almost tripping on his way out.

I got up and headed towards the shower. I quickly got dressed as I realized how soon Ryder's school was going to start. I tucked my gun behind my back. I don't care if people see the gun. It will teach them to stay away from me.

I went down the stairs just in time to see Ryder shove his bowl away aggressively, meaning he's done eating. The maid took his bowl with a smile on her face and began washing it. I need to teach him to say it instead of shoving it away.

"Lets go dork!" I shouted from across the room. "Okay! Coming!" He said excitedly. Why the fuck is he so excited for school of all things?

I clicked the unlock button for the keys of my black Audi R8. My one and only true love. Ryder plopped down in the front passenger seat. I doubt that's safe but okay. Just to be a little more cautious, I put on his seatbelt. I reversed it out of the driveway of my house and went down the route to his school.

"You don't spend as much time with me anymowe." He pouted.

"What?" I said looking over at him.

"You're always doing your.. stuff" He said, sinking further into his seat.

Have I really not? "Okay how about this, after school I will pick you up and we can do whatever you want, yeah?"

He smiled a wide smile, "Okay."

The rest of the ride was random conversations about anything Ryder remembers from his 5 years of living. We finally arrived at his school and I debated on blowing the whole place up. This place is like torture from what I've heard.

I got out and helped Ryder out as well. On the benches I saw the men I hired to watch over Ryder while he was at school.

As we were walking to his classroom, I saw Vincent with his little sister, Sarah. He ruffled her hair and she giggled. Vincent looked up and met my eyes. He glared at me and his hand went to his gun before he realized where he was. This was the only place we didn't try to rip off each other's heads. He knew how much I loved my little brother and I knew how much he loved his little sister.

We both try to keep our siblings away from the mafia. At least I do. I'm not so sure about him, nor do I care. He never tried to hurt my brother and for that, I respected him and would never hurt Sarah either. Tearing my eyes away I looked down at Ryder.

"I'll meet you here at the end of the day okay?" I said. Ryder nodded with a smile and ran off. I watched him. I watched him as he ran off straight to Sarah and gave her a big hug. Fuck. No.

Father agreed that Ryder will not be involved in the mafia until he was at least 10. Therefore I never told him to stay away from Sarah. I thought he thinks girls have cooties or some shit. I looked at Vincent to see if he saw what I did. He was staring right at them with a glare. He began walking over.

I'd like to see this bitch try.

I took out my gun and held it at my side. Waiting for him to lay a damn finger on my brother. Vincent must have seen me and my gun because he took out his too. We both stood in place staring at each other, waiting for the other to  make a move. He tucked his gun back in his waistband and took slow steps backwards, still keeping his eyes on me.

I put mine back behind my back and did the same, until he fully turned around and began walking away. Taking one final look at Ryder, I also turned around. He was still talking to Sarah.

I got into my car and took a deep breath. I knew Ryder was just a kid, but him talking to the Italian mafia princess was too dangerous. Is this why he was so excited? I thought of taking Ryder out of that school, but it was the only private school in the area.

The other options were public schools but that was too risky. Although nobody has ever succeeded, people would do anything to hurt me in the mafia, that includes doing something to Ryder.  I watched Vincent's car speed out of the parking lot. Someone seems upset.

I was worried he would come back after I was gone to do something. That son of a bitch couldn't be trusted.

I took my phone out and texted some more bodyguards.

"Drive your asses to Ryder's school. He is now your duty while he's at school." I would die before I let anyone hurt Ryder. He is the only person I truly loved and would protect with my last breath.
