When Leoni awoke the next day the first she registered was the smell of pancakes. opening her eyes slowly she stretched out just before pushing herself up to sit in her fur and silk covered bed. she took in her surroundings innocently with a sigh before her eyes landed on Lexa sitting on the chair beside her bed making her jump out of her skin
"holy shit Lex you gave me a heart attack" Leoni put a hand to her heart dramatically
"happy birthdayyyyy!" Lexa said in a sing song voice holding up a plate of pancakes
"thank youuu" Leoni sang back patting the empty space in the bed beside her for Lexa to hop in which she did gladly "what are those?" Leoni asked confused taking the plate off of Lexa
"these are pancakes!" Lexa threw an arm around Leoni "sky people food! Clarke helped me make them she said it's totally normal to eat these on your birthday" Lexa assured giving Leoni a big kiss on the cheek "try them!" Lexa cut a bit of the pancake with a fork and held it up for Leoni to eat
"kinda scared-" Leoni started sarcastically
"just try it!" Lexa laughs rolling her eyes shoving the fork into her mouth. Leoni chewed on the piece of pancake slowly thinking about what she thought about the foreign food
"this...is by far...the best thing i have ever tasted in my entire life" Leoni closed her eyes savouring the taste
"Really?"
"Yes! Try!" Leoni ordered shoving a piece into the commander's mouth
"Oh my God that's amazing!" Lexa moaned in awe
"So cooking with Clarke huh?" Leoni teased nudging her friend's shoulder
"Yeah for you!" Lexa reminded rolling her eyes
"Did you accidentally get something on your face that you couldn't quite get?" Leoni mocked jokingly
"You want your present or not?" Lexa asked sarcastically
"Ooh! Yes yes please!" Leoni clapped excitedly. Her grief had been shelved today! Leoni was a birthday person no doubt about it! Lexa reached down the side of the bed producing two boxes one bigger than the other. "Ok this one first" Leoni tore the brown paper off then opened the bigger box revealing a landscape A4 coloured portrait of the two girls laughing and joking in a gold frame. The realism of the picture took Leoni's breath away "Oh my god Lex!" Leoni breathed
"Before you ask no I am not a secret artist... I know a guy but it's so real isn't it?" Lexa fussed over the presents eager for Leoni to like it "I want you to have something of us for when I'm gone" Lexa fiddles with Leoni's hair as the blonde took in the beautiful drawing
"thank you" Leoni whispered hooking an arm over Lexa's shoulders and kissing her cheek
"open the next one it's better" Lexa takes another bite of pancake, patting Leoni's lap excitedly. the girl opened the smaller box carefully pulling on the ribbon and taking off the lid to find a set of beautiful black leather fingerless gloves.
"oh my god" Leoni breathed picking them up and thumbing them gently "they're just like-"
"the ones Kidra used to wear" Lexa finished smiling hopefully
"they're identical!" Leoni laughed shoving another bite of pancake in her mouth before sliding the gloves on and clenching her fist to see how the fit "and they fit perfectly how did you get these?" Leoni was grinning now
"there's a little bit more! turn them over" Lexa ordered sliding down on the bed to rest her head on the blonde's shoulder. Leoni turned her hands over and noticed the inscription on the wrist
"Ai hod yu in" Leoni read
"from me...and from Kidra" Lexa said quietly "happy birthday"
"thank you" Leoni smiled teary eyed before kissing Lexa's cheek again and tightening her grip around the girl
"It's my pleasure now eat up" Lexa demanded and sat up allowing Leoni eating some more of her breakfast "another present came for you today" Lexa grinned teasingly climbing off the bed and walking backwards towards the Haiplana's wardrobe and opening the wooden doors widely revealing a long flowing light blue gown (picture at the top of the chapter)
"oh my God that's stunning!" Leoni squealed like a child as she jumped up rushing towards the dress
"from the people of Flokru! they sent it in last night but I suspect Luna was the driving force" Lexa informed nearing the door "Dinner's at 6 make sure you're there" Lexa winked before leaving Leoni to get changed.
