"Now that was a show" Kidra sat opposite Leoni at the table in the flame, slow clapping
"Your dodges were good I can't say much about guns but your aim was perfect. 40 people in 40 seconds! I'm impressed" Kidra smirked as her clapping died out

"Mother" Leoni breathed with an emotional smile going to rush towards Kidra but she couldn't move from the throne, restrained by her mind, torture of her own devising

"Tell me Leok, theoretically you could talk to whatever commander you desire, all you'd have to do is kill Sheidheda and free us all so what I'm desperate to know is why you're so attracted to him" Kidra leaned back in her chair arms crossed

"I'm not" Leoni scoffed feeling once again like the teenager she'd been when Kidra left her

"Then why kill those so called Primes? Your team had a perfectly good plan why jeopardise it with violence?" Kidra asked in a way that Leoni knew there was a right answer

"Do you really think they would've let us go with their darling daughter? Would you have let Emerson walk away with me? The second they worked us out they would be on our tail, I was tying up inevitable loose ends while taking revenge for what they did to Clarke while trying to turn me into one of their precious Primes with their glitz and glam dresses" Leoni told her mother clearly with no mistakes or hesitation. Kidra looked at her daughter in unreadable silence for a minute until she broke into the widest grin Leoni had ever seen

"Now that's the warrior I raised" she beamed proudly
"Revenge and plotting go-"

"Hand in hand to live happily ever after" Leoni finished
"You always loved your sayings" the blonde smiled

"I did" Kidra sighed remembering her time as commander

"I did the right thing Mother. I'm keeping my daughter and my friends safe" Leoni was trying to convince both the woman in front of her and herself

"It's more than that Leok" Kidra laughed
"You're far more complicated my love."

"Really? You tell me my reasoning then" Leoni snapped

"Your reasoning is simple. You can't deal with the fact that some things are out of your control. You lost your best friend and your father is slowly dying! Both facts you can do nothing about and it kills you!" Kidra tilted her head with a pout
"Caring gets you nowhere Leok. Some of my lessons were to be listened to. But it's too late for that now! You're engaged and have a child! God you're practically me!" She laughed at the irony but what she'd said reminded Leoni of her last burning question

"Why did you never tell me about Uma?" Leoni asked suddenly catching the former commander off guard

"Who told you about that?" Kidra snapped

"You got married and you didn't tell me! Why not?" Leoni demanded

"Because caring was my first mistake" Kidra admitted shallowly
"I fell for Uma. Loved her. After we got married I was...I was going to step down. Take out the flame pass it on to the next commander in order to live a simple life with the woman I loved but my flamekeepa didn't like that. He killed the love of my life to keep me on the throne. After that I became completely darkened. I murdered my flamekeepa then destroyed her village. I didn't feel happiness again until I met you and I swore to myself I would never let feelings come in the way of my work again. That's why you are the way that you are. I kept my lessons blunt and tough so that you'd never make the same mistakes. It seems even I couldn't prevent that." Kidra told her in a tone that practically radiated regret
