The entire drive was silent other than the occasional stirring from Luna. no one said a word as wheels bumped over the rocks and dirt. when they finally pulled up to Becca's lab Leoni was the first to get out with Luna in her arms at the same time as Bellamy. he hooked an arm around her waist and gave her a nod which Leoni returned
"come on" he said pulling her inside. they walked up to the floor that looked down at the lab. Raven slowly rose from where she was sitting at turned to look at them all. everyone other than Leoni removed their helmets
"what are you doing here?" Raven asked confused
"what? you think i was gonna spend the next five years without you baby?" Leoni asked as jokingly as she could but her grief still gnawed at her gut making it harder by the second. everyone hugged Raven as Leoni sat Luna down on a chair
"but we don't have enough time to get back." Raven asked. the others explained the plan to Raven as Leoni walked towards the table that Luna lay on to have her blood extracted. there was a small splatter on the metal surface. Leoni instinctively held onto the girl's tag that hung around her neck beside her locket. she thumbed it carefully. she felt so blessed and cursed at the same time. she didn't know a thing about space or anything like that. but she had Luna. she'd lost Jasper. but she had Luna. she wouldn't see her best friend or any of her people for the next 5 years. but she had Luna.
"Leoni?" Raven asked and the commander snapped out of her day dream turning to face them "i said are you ready?" Raven asked with a smirk
"hey who knows! maybe my black blood will help me survive space too" Leoni joked making everyone laugh. Leoni smiled lightly but it was a facade. She was scared out of her mind.
While everyone started to set up the rocket and life systems they'd need in the ark Leoni had been granted the chance to say goodbye to her father. She sat on a couch with the radio gripped tightly in her hands
"You're going to space for 5 years. Almost feels like déjà vu" Kane laughed lightly
"I know right" Leoni laughed back but it soon faded
"What's wrong" Kane asked gently
"I don't want to go back" Leoni admitted
"I thought it was your idea-"
"It was! I'm just...I guess I associate all my strength and power with earth and when I was in the sky well... I hid and you and mum fought all the time and that's where she and Axon died...i guess" Leoni explained and this time Kane went silent
"Leoni. Grace. Kane. Your strength and power is from inside of you. Even if you'd lived to 19 on the Ark you would still be the most phenomenal and strong woman I know" Kane tried to inspire his daughter who merely dropped her head into her hands nodding along "Once you get up there you'll find our room. Still some baby photos I'm sure Mr Blake would love to see" the man joked and Leoni smiled "I love you Leoni. I understand you're not ready to say it back but you are my daughter and I have so much love for you it's one of the only things that's keeping me going" Kane said so selflessly it made Leoni want to cry
