Christmas eve
You guys were newish to the dating scene, you had been dating for the past 8 months, which meant you had never spend Christmas together, normally you would flight back to your home state which was New York, but with rules changing all the time, you took the decision to stay in England for Christmas.
You were gonna spend it alone, and video call your family once they had woken up, but once your boyfriend found out the plan, he insisted on you spending it with him and his family.
You had met his parents plenty of times, but you didn't want to make it seem like you were crashing the party, and ruining it for them, but Matty insist that you would be fine and that they wouldn't care, they would rather you spend it with them rather than being alone.
Since it was Christmas eve, you guys decided you would make the drive down later at night, so the roads were not as busy, and so you could make the most of Christmas eve, as a couple.
Since you had finished all the presents, you didn't have to stress about that, you had them all labelled, you wanted to be more organised this Christmas.
You had both decided on going to a cafe, for a hot chocolate, and some food, you knew some places would be closing earlier so that's why you found yourself there quite early.
You had a hot chocolate, with whipped cream, and a flake, while Matty had basically the same just had marshmallows as well.
You had decided on going ice skating, it would no doubt be the last time you could in ages, sure there were places where you could go to ice skate, but this was more fun, it was for christmas.
Even thought you guys had gone a hand full of times, Matty still held onto the side, or had to hold on to your hand, but he was more than happy when a worker offered him a penguin.
He definitely started enjoying it more, he was able to actually get around the ice rink, with you at his side.
It is kind of crazy how you had only been dating 8 months, but you could already see yourself spending the rest of your life with him, he was fun, he had a personality, he could actually take
a joke, he was the love of your life.
Normally on Christmas eve, you would walk around New York taking in the sights, it would be a hundred times better if there was snow, it made everything look pretty, and when you got back in, you would put on the fire place, made a hot chocolate and watch a Christmas movie, it would be movies like Elf, Home alone, the holiday, and that would mostly been Christmas eve, it sounded simple, but it's a family tradition.
You started the drive to Nottingham at 6, it was like a little over hour drive, so it wasn't too bad, so far you had made one stop, and that was to a petrol station, and that what you get a couple things, it was mostly drinks and sweets, just incase you got hungry.
The drive was nice and calm, not to much cars in the road, which was quite lucky, not much people would be driving at 6pm on Christmas eve, they would be at home with family, ready for Christmas day.
You were nervous to spend time with Matty parents, they were lovely people, but you couldn't help but feel like you were crashing there family traditions, even thought Matty promised you about 20 times you were not you couldn't shake that feeling.
Christmas day was planned out, you would wake up at 8:30, and open presents, before lunch being served at 1, you would facetime your parents at 3, and get there reactions to the presents, and just speak to them, and at 7 you would head back to Birmingham as Matty had a game the next day.
When you reached the family home it was after 7, you were already really tired, and could honestly go to your bed, but you decided on being social, and staying up, and watch a couple things.
"I can't believe Christmas it actually tomorrow, i remember thinking last year, holy crap i have to wait a whole year for Christmas again" you said to Matty while looking around his room, it was his childhood bedroom, and thankfully for you his parents had kept it the same, it had football trophy and medals, old football tops, that he had collected over the years, and just a ton of football gear and stuff.
"i'm just glad i'm able to spend it with you, obviously it sucks your not able to see your family, but i'm more glad you had someone to spend it with" he said coming over to you and hugging your waist
"I love you and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you" you said turning around and giving him a kiss "well neither can l"
