I couldn't think straight. I feel like everything around me is shrinking, my mind is about to blow, and my heart is about to rip into pieces. Everything is going to be destroyed. Everything is going to be ruined. I rushed to the warehouse as soon as I got a message—I didn't know how to react, I didn't know what to say but one thing I knew was that message was a doom for all of us.
"Matias! Matias!" Swinging the doors of our warehouse, I had to find Matias immediately. Everyone looked at me weirdly, but I was least bothered by the way they reacted to me. Isabel was with me, she grabbed my hand to stop me—if only she knew what happened. I don't even know what happened, everything just happened in a click.
"Reina, calm down, you're breathing so heavily!" Isabel calls out making me stop in the middle of the hallway so I could face her. "Reina, ¿Qué pasó?" (Reina. What happened?)
She pulls me into a hug, I want everything to calm down, but I can't. I want to scream but my throat is stuck. I want to throw my phone away, removing every single thing from my memory, but I can't. "It wasn't Rico that did a background check on you," I whisper, distraught and failure hints in my voice as I realise that I've failed to protect my best friend. "I'm so sorry Isabel, I failed. I failed at everything. I failed in protecting you." I utter and she pulls apart hesitantly, frowned eyebrows and a sad smile across her face.
"Reina, what are you talking about? Who did a background check on me then?" She asks, sounding terrified herself because she's kept her profile low for a while.
"They're back Isabel. It was them who checked you." She knew. She knew who I was talking about because her face said it all and she knew exactly what happened with my family. And today, I've failed to protect her from them.
"Hey, look at me, first of all, you're safe, they won't come anywhere near you because you have so many people to protect you. You know I'll protect you from everything too," Her words seem to reassure me, calming me down but it wasn't enough to get rid of the past, "And Reina, you haven't failed me. You never have because every moment in my life and even today, I felt protected by you."
"I'm sorry Isabel, I'm so sorry."
"Don't you dare apologise Reina. You've done a lot for me, okay?" She pulls me into her arms, I hold and hold onto her like her life depended on me. I needed to tell my brothers asap because they could do something else soon, so I need to show them the message as soon as possible.
"We need to go to Matias," I whisper as I pull apart from her. She gives me a nod and we literally run to his office. I didn't know if he would be busy or not but that doesn't matter because what I'm about to tell him is more important than anything.
Busting his office door open, I thankfully see all three of my brothers together. My heart becomes restless as my breath hitches—scared to tell them now. They all stand up in sync and worry, panic screamed within me as my body starts to remember every word of that message.
"Reina? Isabel? What are you two doing here? I thought we were going to meet at home." Matias asks, his voice turning into confusion as I pace towards him in a hurry.
The silence in me revealed it all and my phone in my hand gave it away. Their muscles constrict, and their body tenses, Lucas runs his hand through his hair and Thiago walks over to me. He takes the phone out of my hand reading what's on it before it got taken away by Matias.
I let out a shaky breath, holding onto Thiago as I put my head down in disappointment. This is all my fault. It's always been my fault.
"Who sent this?" Matias speaks with anger, yet his eyes showed fret. I'm so sorry Matias.
