Strange behaviors

Y/N's POV:

I Spent the evening at mine with Natalie and it was even more magical than I could've thought. She didn't need to do a single thing and I was absolutely captivated and despite, despite the fact she's lying to me about her name, therefore probably hiding something...I don't give a fuck anymore.

We are now almost 3 months after the whole Hammer/Vanko incident and I'm with Tony Stark and James Rhodes receiving a medal of some sort. I have no idea why someone judged me worthy of this, I just did what anyone would've done in my shoes. Plus I'm freaking out! There are so much photographers and press people out there!

"Don't worry kid, just act normal and it'll be fine" Tony Stark's telling me patting my shoulder and bringing me out of my thoughts, visibly seeing I'm dying on spot

"Normal for you is like easily pulling off immature jokes at your own court case and act naturally in front of cameras" I answer frenetically shaking my hands like stress would leave by them

"Facts" Rhodes says laughing "Look, stand up straight, do whatever you're told and you'll be just fine" He kindly reassures

"But that's boring!" Stark interjects "I'll make this fun" He says with a devilish grin, he already made something up

A few seconds after our conversation we enter the stage and there's a...senator!? To present us and give the distinctions

We stand up in a straight line next to the podium where the senator makes his little speech " It is my honor to be here today, to present these distinguish medals to Colonel-Lieutenant James Rhodes, Officer Y/N Anderson and Mister Tony Stark, who is of course, a national treasure" He says with the fakest smile I've ever seen

Rhodes looks at Tony like he did a childish joke and the billionaire just smiles proudly. I take a minute to process, wait! Is this THE senator from his court case? Okay... I gotta say it's a funny one

"I'd also like to thank these 3 heroes to have saved Nee York from this drone attack and cleaning our police department from its corruption. That is also the reason why, Miss Anderson, the government offers you the new status of police force lieutenant" He continued talking and has I catch on what he just said. I was already dying of stress, but right now my heart simply stopped working.

He approaches us with the medals and hook it on Rhodes suit saying "Thank you Lieutenant-Colonel, you did such an exceptional distinguish performance, you deserve this" Be fore patting his shoulders

It's then my turn and when he finishes saying the same sentence he told Rhodes, I ask shyly "Is the upgrade real or just for the show?"

"It is sadly, I personally don't think you should take it. You're too young and therefore inexperienced" He complains and even though I'm more than taken aback by his opinion, my powers clearly sense he has other reasons to want someone else than me on that lieutenant job.

He finally moves to Stark saying his official sentence sentence and visibly hooking the medal to deep in Tony's suit as the man makes a little backing move "Oh sorry, it's funny...How annoying a little prick can be, isn't it?" That's when I can't hold a little laugh to get out of my mouth from the whole situation

"Let's get a photo!" The senator says getting between me and Rhodes to change the subject. A photograph comes to the front and we all awkwardly smile as Stark does his signature peace sign✌️

We then head back stage "Was it the senator from your court case?" I finally ask starting to get released from my stress

"Yes! Told you I'd make this fun" He says proud of him

"It was thanks Stark" I say assuming it helped a bit "Hope to see you 2 again one of these days! Now I'm sorry, but I have a promotion to claim! I say starting to get away
