Magic

Pinto had always been somewhat gullible. He'd believed all of Kwazii's monster stories with all his little heart, and it had been quite the shocker when Peso had very gently explained to him that there was no such thing as an octopus with multiplying legs.

But one thing he'd believed with all his heart for as long as he could remember was magic. Now, he'd stopped believing in green skinned witches with pointy black hats and flying broomsticks a long time, but Pinto still remembered when he was a chick, sitting in Mama's lap. He recalled her exact words: "Mijo, if love was magic, then you'd be the strongest wizard ever." And love was magic. At least to him it was.

His loved ones seemed magical to him. Everything from Peso's loving nature to Pinata's kisses made him feel as if a spell of happiness had been cast on him. His family was so perfect. And it wasn't just his biological family. Family wasn't completely bound by blood after all.

The Captain, who'd accepted Pinto as his own son from the moment he laid eyes on him, to Dashi, who became like another older sister to him. And his siblings. Oh, goodness, his new siblings. Koshi and Squirt were alright (mostly), but Jane, oh Jane... She was a real piece of work. She both enchanted and terrified him. One minute, she'd be begging him to leave her alone for five seconds, and the next, she'd have punched him in the beak for asking her for a kiss for the 40th time that day. It wasn't his fault she was so much fun to tease and anger. She only had herself to blame for that one. But even she had him entranced. The first man to lay a single paw, flipper, or tentacle would be thrown into orbit if he caught them.

His whole family was so perfect, and they all loved him with all their hearts. The magic of love really was a beautiful thing.
