"Hi, ______." Maria limped over to you. You hurried over to her and helped her walk.

"Maria... Are you hurt again?" You asked with concern.

"It's nothing. Really." She insisted. You walked with her back to her house, ignoring all the dirty looks you got.

"Who did this to you?" You asked.

"It's not important." Maria insisted.

"Yes it is Maria. If you keep getting hurt... I might lose you. And I don't want that!" You said. Maria walked over to the door of her house and looked back at you.

"You can come in... If you want.." Maria said. You nodded and walked over to her.

"You understand though, right? If I lost you, I wouldn't know what to do." You started crying. You couldn't help it. Just the thought of losing her broke you to pieces.

"_________, I won't leave you." Maria hugged you, making you cry even more.

"Promise?" You barely managed to say.

"Promise." She smiled.

That was three years ago. Now you know better. Now you know that no one keeps promises.
