as i find myself doing most days of the week, i knocked on saylor's apartment door. i leaned against the frame as i shoved my hands into my pockets and waited. unlike most times i come over, i'm showing up unexpectedly.

it's about mid-november, and it's getting pretty cold. i'm wearing a pair of sweatpants with a quarter-zip pullover. i would've worn a hoodie, but i had left the one i wanted to wear at saylor's apartment.

only a handful of seconds passed before the door opened. saylor looked up at me, and i watched as her eyes lit up in surprise. "oh," she murmured. "hi, baby."

"hi, darling," i greeted softly.

my eyes raked over her appearance. i quickly noticed that she was wearing my hoodie that i had left here. my eyes trailed down, and my cheeks started to flush.

is she not wearing any shorts?

granted, i've been in my boxers around her, but they might as well be shorts.

my eyes quickly flitted back up to meet her eyes. her cheeks were flushed slightly too. "i didn't know you were coming over," she mumbled.

"surprise," i gave a playful grin. i looked down at her. "do you always wear my hoodies and jackets when i leave them?" i chuckled.

"no," she answered lowly. i raised a brow. "maybe..."

i shook my head. "little thief."

she flipped me off, which made me grin. she let me inside, and i followed her as we walked to the couch.

"so, to what do i owe this pleasure?" she asked teasingly.

"i dunno," i admitted softly. "i just wanted to see you."

"really?" she spoke almost just as softly.

"yeah," i sat down on the couch, next to her. i avoided her eyes.

she giggled. "so, what do you wanna do now that you're seeing me?" she raised a brow.

"uh... i dunno. what do you wanna do?"

she hummed for a moment. "oh, what about you starting to read twilight?" she asked hopefully.

i made a face at the idea. i've honestly never been a book reader. the only time i've read books was when a teacher made me. even then, the books were mostly read to me. i've never cared for reading. the fact that what i have read was old literature that i could barely understand has definitely made me not want to read anything else.

"popcorn reading" or just reading in front of the class in general definitely didn't help my dislike for reading. that shit always made me feel so stupid, especially when i stumbled over words and stuttered the whole time.

"i've already told you that i don't read," i gave a small laugh. "i just don't— yeah, no, i'm good."

she thought for a few seconds. "what if i read them to you? would that be better?"

my eyes widened slightly. "you'd really read them to me?" i tilted my head.

"yeah, i don't mind," she smiled.

i interlaced my fingers and looked down at where they were resting in my lap. i twiddled my thumbs. "i think i'd like that, then."

she let out an excited squeal-like noise. "okay, let's go get the first one then, and we can start now," she told me as she got up. i was caught off guard as she grabbed my wrist to pull me up and with her.

"oh, uh, okay. sure then," i said as she dragged me to her room.

when we got to her room, she pulled me over to her bookcase. her eyes scanned over it for a moment before she spotted what she was looking for. the twilight set was on the highest shelf. i watched as she stood on her tiptoes to grab the first one. my eyes widened.

yeah, nope, she's definitely not wearing shorts.

i quickly averted my eyes as my face flushed. i kept my eyes on the ceiling. only a few seconds passed before i snuck another quick glance.

let me stop and be respectful.

i looked away again. i bit the inside of my cheek. i stole another, even quicker, glance.

at the same time though... god damn.

i looked away again. saylor got the book down only a second later. "okay, here it is. you wanna read it in here or in the living room?"

"in here," i answered. i looked at the book, and my brows knitted together. "why is it so damn thick?!"

she laughed. "'cause it goes into more details than the movies do."

"i don't think i've ever seen a book that thick," i shook my head.

"and you haven't even seen the breaking dawn one," she muttered.

my brows furrowed deeper. i looked over at her book case, and i searched for the book. my eyes widened as i spotted it. "what the fuck? we're seriously gonna read that?!"

"baby, i've read that book at least five times; you'll be fine reading it once," she told me as she got in her bed.

i rolled my eyes. i watched as she sat with her back slouched against the headboard. she got comfy, and she looked to me as she waited for me to get in the bed. i kicked my shoes off before i got in the bed as well.

i swallowed, and i hesitated for a moment before i moved closer to her. i laid down on top of her with my head laying on her stomach. i wrapped my arms around her waist.

"you comfy?" she asked with a small laugh.

i gave a small nod against her stomach as i hummed lowly. she laughed again, then paused. she shrugged before she opened the book and propped it on my head.

so, i'm a foot rest and a book rest to her, apparently. how lovely.

"wait, actually, before you start, gimme a kiss," i said as i sat up.

she cupped my face as she smiled at me. "c'mere then."

i leaned up more, and i pressed my lips to her's. when we pulled back, i pecked her lips a few times.

"okay, i'm good now," i murmured as i laid my head back on her stomach.

"alright," she giggled.

she rested the book on my head again as she opened it. i heard her turning to the pages. she then took a small breath.

"i'd never given much thought to how i would die— though i'd had reason enough in the last few months— but even if i had, i would not have imagined it like this," she started to read.
