what they'll say about us

---

On a crisp morning, Liam stood outside his sisters' apartment building, his suitcases neatly packed and ready to go. The cold wind tousled his hair as he looked up at the clear blue sky. The vibrant colors of fall adorned the trees, serving as a bittersweet reminder that change was inevitable.

Amelia and Sandra, both bundled up in warm coats, joined him on the sidewalk. Their expressions mirrored Liam's mixed emotions. Amelia, with her hazel eyes sparkling, always practical yet tender-hearted. Sandra, radiated strength and determination, her green eyes brimming with love for her brother.

"Thank you for bearing with us, regardless dad's situation.'" Amelia said, tears glistening in her eyes.

Liam swallowed hard, trying to keep his composure. "I know, it's hard to say goodbye, but I'll be back soon."

Sandra wrapped her arms around Liam, squeezing him tightly. "We'll miss you so much. Promise you'll come back soon."

Liam held his younger sister, his voice choked with emotion. "I promise, Sandy. I'll visit as soon as I can."

Amelia stepped forward, her voice steady but filled with love. "Remember, you're always welcome here. This city is as much your home as L.A."

As they reached the parking lot, Amelia unlocked the car, and they loaded the suitcases into the trunk. The drive to New York's JFK Airport passed in a reflective silence, each lost in their own thoughts.

Upon arrival, the trio disembarked, and Amelia parked the car. Together, they made their way to the bustling airport entrance.

The air inside felt heavy with a blend of excitement and melancholy. People rushed past, hugging loved ones in emotional embraces.

Liam's heart sank a little at the sight as he realized he too would soon be caught up in the whirlwind of goodbyes.

They found an empty bench near Liam's departure gate, surrounded by fellow passengers engrossed in whispered farewells. Amelia glanced at her brother, her eyes glistening with tears she refused to shed.

"Liam, promise us, you'll take care of yourself." she pleaded quietly.

Liam nodded, his voice full of determination, "I will, Amelia. I'll make sure to make every moment in L.A. count."

Sandra, her voice trembling, added, "And Liam, remember to text or call us often. We'll worry if we don't hear from you."

Liam smiled warmly, appreciating his sisters' concern. "I will, Sandy. Count on it."

As boarding announcements blared over the speakers, Liam's heart grew heavier. The reality of leaving his sisters behind began to sink in. He stood up, his eyes brimming with tears, and embraced his sisters one final time.

"Thank you both for everything," he whispered, his voice quivering. "I love you both so much."

Amelia and Sandra hugged him fiercely, whispering words of love and encouragement until Liam reluctantly pulled away. Wiping away his tears, he turned and walked towards the jetway, his heart a mix of excitement and longing.

As Liam settled into his seat, he couldn't help but glance out the window. He caught a final glimpse of his sisters, standing side by side, their faces etched with a blend of pride and melancholy.

With a heavy heart but a renewed spirit, Liam breathed in deeply. The plane engines roared to life, propelling him skyward, and he watched the New York skyline gradually fade into the distance.

As he soared through the clouds towards his beloved city of Los Angeles, Liam knew that no matter the distance, the bond of family would endure, carrying him through the highs and lows of life.

Liam's heart was heavy as he sat on the plane, gazing out of the window. He had just said goodbye to his hometown, New York, the place that held countless memories of his childhood and a painful reminder of his father's untimely passing.

After a long and tearful farewell, Liam embarked on a six-hour flight that would take him to his new beginning in the bright and bustling city of Los Angeles.

As the plane descended into the City of Angels, Liam felt a mix of excitement and sadness. He had left everything behind in New York, including his friends, his familiar surroundings, and most heartbreakingly, his father's remains.

He had kept his father's sudden death a secret from Lizzie, unable to bear the thought of burdening her during an already difficult time in their relationship.

Stepping out of the airplane, Liam took a deep breath as he absorbed the warm air. It felt healing, as if it could somehow soothe the pain he carried within.

With determination in his eyes, he approached the baggage claim carousel, waiting patiently for his suitcase. As he stood there, he thought about how dramatically his life had changed within a short span, and how he would need to start a new chapter of his life just right after a heartbreaking event.

After collecting his luggage, Liam hailed a taxi and gave the driver his new address. As they drove through the streets of Los Angeles, he marveled at the unique life he had left unexpectedly weeks ago.

The palm trees lining the roads, the glamorous billboards advertising movies and music, and the seemingly endless opportunities were a stark contrast to the fast-paced yet comforting environment he had left behind.

Arriving at his apartment building, Liam stepped out of the taxi and paid the driver. Before casually entering the apartment, he took a deep breath and unbolted the door. Shocked, he had just seen Lizzie looking over at him.

As he looked down at her, he soon felt a pair of arms wrapped around his neck. "Where have you been?" Lizzie asked, with tears threatening her eyes, speaking in a whisper.

Harshly, Liam removed her hands around him and made his way to the sliding doors, attempting to open them.

"Why don't you ever tell me the reason why you're being so harsh?!" Lizzie yelled, causing Liam to freeze. His heart broke as he heard Lizzie pleading with him.

He didn't utter a word. Frozen on his spot, he remained unable to form a word or a sentence.

"My father is dead. Philip is dead," he sadly spoke, as Lizzie stood there, shocked. "What?"

"He's dead! That's the only thing you need to know. Stay out of everything if possible." Liam spoke coldly.

"No. If you're going to experience this, I have to be with you." Lizzie took a step closer to him, as the tension grew stronger.

"You care so much, don't you?" Liam spoke, clenching his jaw to control his rage.

"It just breaks my heart seeing you this way. I just don't want you to be alone." Lizzie looked down and started fiddling with the rings on her finger.

"Stop pitying me." Liam chuckled, resting his arms on the glass door.

"I'm not pitying you." Lizzie spoke.

"Look, I'm going to need you to leave," Liam avoided eye contact with her. "No. I'm not leaving you here."

"Leave!!" He yelled, causing her to flinch. "Alright. I will." With that, the silence prevailed over their voices.

Liam felt a pang of regret stirring within him. But one thing he knew was that he could never be the same person he was. It's not her. It's him.
