Chapter 31 - He was their Friend

It's been snowing for days, and there's a thick layer outside.  It's an hour before year three is due to leave for Hogsmeade and I'm really looking forward to it.

I look out my window and see the twins building a snowman so I smirk as I grab the cape and head outside.

But as I sneak up on them, they grab me.

"Guys, let me go."

"Clever, Harry."

"But not clever enough."

"Look, I'm sorry okay.  What are you going to do to me?"

They lead me to the clock tower where they remove the cape.

"What are you doing?"

"Shh," Fred says as he shoves a piece of paper in my hand.

"What's this rubbish?"

"'What's this rubbish?' he says," Fred repeats.  "That there is the secret of our success."

"It's a wrench giving it to you, believe me," George says.

"But we've decided your needs are greater than ours.  George, if you will."

George pulls his wand out.

"I solemnly swear that I am up to no good," George says before tapping the papers with his wand.

Writing and pictures begin to appear.

"Messrs, Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs are proud to present the Marauder's Map," I read before I look at them.

"We owe them so much," George says.

I open it and what I see surprises me.

"Hang on, this is Hogwarts.  And that... no.  Is that really...?"

"Dumbledore..." Fred says.

"In his study..." George says.

"Pacing," Fred says.  "Does that alot."

"So you mean this map shows..."

"Everyone."

"Everyone?" George says.

"Where they are," Fred says.

"What they're doing," George says.

"Every minute."

"Of every day."

"Brilliant!" I grin.  "Where did you get it?"

"Nicked it from Filch's office, of course, first year," Fred says.

"When you're done, just give it a tap and say: 'Mischief managed.'  Otherwise anyone can read it."

The images fade until it's only a blank piece of paper again.

After looking around the village and spending some of our money, the nine of us go to see the Shrieking Shack.

"It's meant to be the most haunted building in Britain," Hermione says.  "Did I mention that?"

"Twice," Ryan laughs.

"Do you want to move a bit closer? Ben asks.

"Well, well.  Look who's here."

We all turn to see Malfoy with Pike and Crabbe.

"What the hell are you doing here? This is a year three trip."

"Well, my darling Emberlee isn't allowed near the precious Potter triplets but nobody said I wasn't."
