Jane leads us into a grand hall, where, at the front are three men sitting on three thrones, and I recognise them as Aro, Caius and Marcus but don't know which one is which.

"Sister," a young man says.  "They send you out to get one and you bring back two... and a half.  Such a clever girl."

"What a happy surprise," one of the leaders says as he stands.  "Bella is alive after all."

He approaches us.

"Isn't that wonderful? I love a happy ending."

He takes Edward's hand away from mine and holds it in his own.

"They are so rare.  Her blood appeals to you so much," he says, looking at me.  "It makes me thirsty.  How can you stand to be so close to her?"

"It's not without difficulty."

"Yes, I can see that."

He chuckles.

"Aro can read every thought I've ever had with one touch," Edward informs me as he cranes his head back.  "And now you know everything," he says to Aro.  "So get on with it."

"You are quite a soul reader yourself, Edward.  Though you can't read Bella's thoughts.  Fascinating!"

He moves back, releasing Edward's hand.

"I would love to see if you are an exception to my gifts, as well."

I move slightly behind Edward as Aro holds out his hand.

"Would you do me the honor?"

Reluctantly I hold out my hand.  He takes it and pulls me closer to him.

There's a short silence.

"Interesting! Hmm.  I see nothing."

He let's go of my hand, turns and takes a couple of steps toward his throne before turning back to face us.

"I wonder if... Let us see if she's immune to all our powers."

"No!" Edward protests.

Aro turns to Jane.

"Shall we, Jane?"

Jane looks at me but Edward stands between the two of us.

"Pain," she says and Edward bends over backwards in obvious agony.

"Stop!" I plead as he drops to his knees and falls to his back.  "Stop! Please! Stop!"

Jane's brother comes over to me and pushes me back.

"Stop! Just stop hurting him! Please! Please!"

Alice drops down beside him.

"Jane?" Aro says, turning to her.

She stops and looks at him.

"Master?"

"Go ahead, my dear."

She looks at me.

"This may hurt just a little," she smirks.

We stare at each other and I await the pain Edward just suffered but nothing happens and her grin is quickly replaced by a scowl.

Aro laughs excitedly.

"Remarkable! She confounds us all.  So what do we do with you now?"

"You already know what you're going to do, Aro," the older leader says.

"She knows too much," the younger one says.  "She's a liability."

"Hmm! That's true.  Felix?"
