Edward pulls up outside the park and stops the car.

"Do you regret going?"

"No. It was really great seeing my mom. Just really hard leaving and not knowing when I'll see her again, if I ever do."

"You know I could move to Phoenix."

"No, I can't make you leave your family. And I can't leave Dad all alone - Mom has Phil now and things are going great for her. Besides, I don't find it easy making new friends."

He looks out his window and seems to be concentrating on something.

"What?"

"If I asked you to stay in the car, would you?"

I say nothing so he opens his door and gets out of the car - I follow.

"Of course not," he says, looking at me briefly.

We walk toward the usual area where the others are hanging out and as we draw nearer I see Jake and Bam nearby and there are two bikes a few feet away from them.

Bam walks towards us but Jake stays put.

"Hey!" I say.

"Charlie said you left town."

"Yeah. To visit my mom. Why?"

"He's checking to see if you're still human," Edward scoffs.

"Look," he says, looking at Edward. "We're here to warn you. If your kind enter Quileute land again..."

"Wait, what?" I ask. "Since when do you call the shots for the tribe?"

"Since Jake was asked to and decided he doesn't want to talk to you."

I look at Jake, feeling hurt but he turns away.

"Who came on their land?"

He turns to Edward.

"You didn't tell her?"

"Just leave it alone, Brandon."

"Tell me what?" I ask Edward.

"Emmett and Paul had a misunderstanding. It's nothing to worry about."

"Listen to you. Did you lie to get her out of town, too?"

"You should leave," Edward warns as he goes right up to Bam. "Now!"

"She has a right to know. She is the one the redhead wants."

"Victoria? Alice's vision."

"I was trying to protect you," Edward says.

"By lying to me."

I can't believe my summer is going to be ruined by that bitch again.

"Okay, we're gonna talk about this, but..."

I march over to Jake.

"You! Why haven't you called me back?"

"I had nothing to say," he says before walking away.

"Well, I have tons. Hold on."

"Hey!" Edward says, gently grabbing my arm.

Jake turns back round but continues back to his bike.

"Bella," Edward says.

"Edward, you have to trust me."

"I do trust you. It's them I don't trust."

I turn and go over to the bikes with Bam following behind, leaving Edward standing there.

Both boys climb onto the bikes and I climb on to the back of Jake's. Bam smirks at Edward.
