Part 65 - Tainted

The door slammed open, and Zero rushed to my side. I stared emotionless at the door. Kaname stood there watching as Zero wiped the blood off my lips.

"Kill me,"
I whispered to Zero
"She doesn't deserve what's happening to her."

"Get yourself together,"
Zero said sternly, lifting my head by my chin
"We'll sort everything out."

"Yuki,"
Kaname said
"Take this girl to my bedroom."

"Alright."
She said, walking over to us and picking up the girl.
"You really did it this time, (Y/n)"

"(Y/n),"
Kaname said, crouching down to my side
"You understand what's going to happen now?"

"I know,"
I said, glancing at him
"Since Zero won't do it.. Will my big brother do something for me?"

"I'm not going to kill you, (Y/n)"
Kaname said, moving a strand of hair out of my face
"I'm only glad you're ok."

Kaname left to follow Yuki, leaving me alone with Zero.
"We need to leave."
He said

"I know,"
I said
"I'm covered in blood."

"Most of the nightclass left due to the smell. The humans are confused."
He said
"They'll come to us looking for answers."

Zero extended his arm, and I accepted as he helped me get to my feet. A sudden dizziness hit me, making me hit my back against the railing.

Zero helped me over the railing and to the ground.
"Where are we going?"
He asked

"I don't feel too great, Zero."
I said, making my head fall backward.

"Something doesn't feel right,"
He said.
"I'm taking you to Kaname, I'll go talk to the headmaster."

I agreed following Zero to the nightclass. When we got there, he left. I entered through the door, leaning into it for support.

Takuma rushed to my side, helping me walk.
"What's wrong?"
He asked, concerned

"I don't know,"
I said, feeling disoriented

He helped me up the stairs and to Kaname's room. When I opened the door, I saw the girl on the couch and Yuki, and Kaname was sitting on the bed.

"Lord Kaname,"
Takuma said
"Something isn't right."

He helped me to the bed, laying me down. Kaname felt my forehead before trailing his hands down my face.

"I may know what's wrong,"
Kaname said
"We'll only be sure after her transformation is complete."

My breath was uneven, I couldn't see straight. I heard Yuki leave. I could hear every detail. The floor creaking under her feet. A drop of sweat running down the girls face.

It was all too overwhelming. I started coughing, a light splatter of blood on my hand. I could feel something odd in my body.

'You're dying.'
A voice said in my head

"Echo?"
I asked

Kaname glaced at me from the sudden word.

'It's the blood,'
She said.
'It drove that girl mad. There's something in her blood.'

"Kaname,"
I said, grabbing onto his sleeve
"I'm going to die. Make sure to end that girl's suffering, becoming.. one of us is a curse worse than death. "

"You're not dying, (Y/n)"
He said, trying to convince me, or merely convince himself
"You'll be fine."

'You have less than an hour of life left.'
She said
'That's how long it will take for your body to process that blood'

'What do I do?'
I asked

'Get it out, remove the blood from your system'

'I need to throw up?'

'In this case, it's not that easy'
She said
'The headmaster might have an antidote, I'd advise you to be quick'

'I feel weak'
I said
'I can barely walk'

'Fine'
She said
'I'll do it'

With those words Echo took over, I was too weak to fight back.
She got out of the bed and went to the window, we glanced at the girl

"Where are you going?"
Kaname asked

"I'm taking (Y/n) to the headmaster."
Echo said
"She'll die otherwise,"

Echo took my finger to the girl's throat. Before she could do anything, I stopped her.
Echo sighed, jumping out the window and to the headmaster's office.

She burst through the door, making the headmaster and Zero turn around to look at us.

"(Y/n)?"
Zero questioned
"What are you doing here?"

"Kaien, do you have the antidote for vautophagy?"
Echo asked
"(Y/n)'s dying."

"I believe I do,"
He said
"I'm not sure it will be enough. Do you know what happened?"

"She attacked a girl, devouring her blood. A hunter's curse,"
She said, glaring at the headmaster
"If I'm not mistaken."
