When we finally step out of the car, our group is led forward into the hall by one of the many workers dressed in crisp black suits.
Walking the carpet is supposed to be an exhilarating experience. I've always loathed it because you just pose for a single picture with some |news outlet. The people who attend usually aren't famous like a typical celebrity but they are influential enough where the news outlets prefer to keep up with who attends. Everyone knows high society has the best gossip.
Poppy leads the pack with a swagger only a woman on a mission can muster in such a busy and overwhelming area. Caleb holds out his arm with a practiced smile. He knows better than to goof off when Poppy is like this.
Luka and Juleka match Caleb and I's stance, walking a bit behind us. I look ahead at the flashing of cameras and people posing. There's only one real outlet that will actually care to get a solo picture of me, which is Teen Connect Weekly or TCW.
They are everywhere around the city and are constantly getting any type of gossip they can pick up revolving around the aristocratic youth of the city.
Poppy turns to face me and reaches for my hand before leaning in to whisper.
"Will get a picture together for The Gazette and you need a solo shot for TCW then you can move on."
She tugs me away from Caleb who I can simply glance at over my shoulder as we step out onto the red crimson runner. Each step is measured and deliberate, as we cross onto the first spot.
"Miss. Morris, a picture please with your-uh-daughter."
I cringe at the stutter. People usually don't know what to make of me because I legally am not her child. Poppy doesn't care as usual, confidently slipping into a pose her hand finds its way around my waist. Naturally, I matched her, flashing a light smile for the camera.
After a few flashes, I move away from my foster mom and motion behind me for my friends to follow. We walk further down the carpet and Juleka catches my elbow.
"You never told me it would be this...intense."
She whispers under her breath. I catch her hand and give it a reassuring squeeze.
'You should see an actual red carpet event.'
"Only one more picture and then we're done with the carpet I promise."
"This is by far the worst part."
Caleb leans down between our heads to whisper. Which earns him a giggle. I steal a glance to my left at Luka who looks to be taking it all in hesitantly.
"How are you holding up?"
"It's definitely a lot, but worth every second if it's with you."
