49. Upcoming Days

(After school - volleyball practice)

"Aaaaawaaaaawh" I yawn again.

I've been yawning for the entire day today. I think waking up early in the morning for more than a week in order to talk Wakatoshi's mother and grandmother at the Ushijima family residence.

Who would've have thought that waking up so early has finally gotten to me.

I even zoned out in class which was a huge shock to me because most of time I'm studious kid. Luckily Kimiko was in my class so I could get her notes or else I would be screwed.. there's also Goshiki, but his class notes.. they're chicken scratch.

During lunch with Wakatoshi and the boys volleyball team, the boys were teasing me and my constant yawning. Wakatoshi notice it as well and I knew he was concerned, but I tried to ignore it because it would make me feel more guilty that I'm hiding things from him.

It's not his fault. It's understandable that Wakatoshi is getting suspicious, but I don't want to tell because he'll tell me to stop and if I stop now then they're never come to the Spring High Preliminaries to watch him play.

I believe that the only way they're going to accept Wakatoshi is if they watch him play in the Spring High Preliminaries.

I rub my eyes.

Right now I'm at volleyball practice and I'm finally starting to wake myself up after moving around and playing volleyball.

"Girls!" Kazue claps her hands and we all gather around her. "I have some important news to tell you. Starting today we will have another player joining us for the Spring High Preliminaries." Kazue turns around gesturing to the person behind her.

Girls in the team gasp and their eyes widen when they see Erena behind Kazue. Erena awkwardly gives a small wave. "My name is Erena S--"

Seki immediately burst in comedic tears and hugs Erena. "The ace is back! All hail the ace!" Seki cries out and everyone cheers.

"Seki you're over exaggerating," Erena says as she tries to pull herself out of Seki's hug.

"She actually isn't really," Nao mumbles with a small smile on her face.

"You're our ace Erena, we want you back. Besides the first years want to see your playing style too isn't that right?" Kazue says then turns to us first years.

"Of course!" Kimiko smiles.

"I admit. I am curious of the ace," Shiro says and crosses her arms. "Are you really the ace everyone claims to be?" Shiro asks with a competitive smirk.

"I hope I am. I'm not too rusty, I still been practicing after all," Erena grins.

"I can't wait," I add in. "I want to see the skills of the ace so I could surpass them and be the next ace," I declare.

"... You know Shiro and Amu have barely met me, but they seem like they want to take my title rather than play with me," Erena says with a sweatdrop.

"Well that's just how first years are," Kazue pats Erena's shoulder. "But what made you come back to the girls volleyball team?"

Erena awkwardly scratches the back of never. "Everyone here really. I did hate losing, but what I realized what I really hated more is letting my teammates down. It took all of you guys including my pen pal from Karasuno to make me see that I shouldn't be placing all the pressure on myself. We are a team and whatever happens on the court, whether it's winning or losing. We share it together," Erena explains and we all smile.
