Wakatoshi POV
(2 days later ~ 8:00 am - Airport)

Yesterday I asked Shikamaru if it was okay for him to drop me off to the airport because my driving skills aren't known to be exactly safe for civilians.

Shikamaru told me that it was fine and drove me to the airport. Now I'm waiting for my father to arrive.

I called him earlier and asked if we could meet before 10 am and he was completely fine with it.

"Wakatoshi!" My father happily greets me waving both of his hands.

I stand there giving him a small wave since I'm not very sure how I should respond back to him.

"You're here super early, the airplane doesn't arrive till 10 am," my father says looking over the clock.

"I am," I tell him and he laughs.

"You and Kiryu. He left yesterday because he was so excited to leave to America," my father says and his eyes sparkle. "But I can't wait for you to come with me to America! There are so many things we can do together. We can ride bicycles in the mountains, watch a movie, eat hotdogs together and --"

"I don't want to go to America," I straightforwardly tell him and he stops talking.

"Eh?" He says surprised.

"I can't go to America. I'm sorry," I apologize and bow my head down. "Thank you for giving me this great opportunity to join the American Olympics volleyball team but I want to reach the Olympics stage not through connections like ours but with my own strength and abilities."

"... I see. You know you're quite independent child aren't you?" He chuckles. "But don't  apologize Wakatoshi. Look up," I look up to see my father's loving smile. "Do you want to stay in Japan because of Amu?" My father asks me and my eyes widen.

"How did you--" I ask surprised how he easily figured out but he shakes his head.

"Wakatoshi I'm your old man. I'm full of wisdom. I was excited though thinking about all the things we could do together in America as father and son, but from the beginning it was your choice," my father shakes his head. "No I was forcing you to America. You should stay in Japan and play volleyball here. You're an amazing player Wakatoshi. I've been watching you on TV. I know that there are many great opportunities here in Japan that you'll be offered with although I wish it was mine that you'll take."

"Father..." I mumble and he grins.

"It's fine Wakatoshi. I understand why you would want to stay. Amu is a great girl. From the first time I met her I knew that any boy would be lucky to date her, but I never thought that she would be dating my own son," he says and tears start to fall.

"Are you--" I ask, but he quickly wipes his tears.

"I-I'm fine," my father reassures me and sniffles. "You grow up so fast. Just please come visit me in America and I'll come visit you in Japan whenever I can."

"I will," I answer and he smiles.

"You will continue to grow up to be such a fine man," my father pats me on the back. "Seeing you happy now. That's all I ever want and not just me but your mother too. Wakatoshi I want you to continue to be happy for the rest of your life, will you that for me?"
