After the party
I walked up to Brett as he was about to hug his aunt. He turned and smiled. "Hey, baby girl." He said. I forced a smiled. He pulled me into his arms. "Thank you for coming to aunt Billy. I'll come by soon I promise." He said to her and pulled me away. We went to an area where no one was and he looked down at me. "Baby what's wrong?" He asked. I looked down.
"I can't do this. Pretending something isn't going to happen doesn't make it not happen. My father is dying and I have to force a smile on my wedding day. I know I said I wanted him to be at my wedding but I never thought he would be dead a few weeks after." I said. He held me tight.
"I know baby." He said. I looked up at him.
"Than why go through all of this? What's the point?" I asked.
"The point is I was going to marry you anyway. Only this way he's going to be here for it. I wanted you to be happy. I wanted to make you happy." He said. I looked down at the ring.
"Maybe it just happened too soon," I said spoke. He picked up my head. He had a worry in his eyes.
"What are you saying? You don't want to be married?" He asked. I swallowed hard. "Because that's not an option. I waisted 5 years without you. I don't want to waist anymore. Please don't make me." He said. Tears fell down my cheeks.
"I don't want to lose him." I breathed. He grabbed me and hugged me tightly.
"He will always be there baby." He said. I took a deep breath.
"Tears for me? Oh, you shouldn't have." Dad said. I turned and looked at him. "Mel you have a family that needs you. You have more to live for then you think." He said.
"So do you. If it was your turn to die your doctors wouldn't have caught cancer soon. You have a family you started you can't turn away when you still have more to teach me." I said. He looked down.
"Mel I-."
"It doesn't matter. Excuse me." I said walking away. I get to the house when my phone starts to ring. I answer it. "Hello?" I said.
"This is Peter Charleston. I'm looking for Melody Black?" A man said.
"That's me and it's Taylor now," I said.
"My apologies Mrs. Taylor." He said.
"It's not a problem. Can I ask why you are calling?" I asked.
"I'm calling on behalf of your book Two Identities." He said. I sit down.
"Ok, is there a problem with it?" I asked.
"Not at all. I love the idea of the book." He said.
"Oh, you do?" I asked.
"Father and son, two billionaires that act completely different? Who wouldn't love that idea?" He said.
"You would be surprised," I said.
"My question is how did you come up with the idea?" He asked. My mind went straight to Bret and his father.
"It just hit me," I said. He chuckled.
"Listen I want you to come by my office at the Publish-Inc on Thursday. Say around noon?" He said.
"Um ok," I said surprised. He then hung up and I looked up at the wall where my book cover hung. I rolled my eyes.
I stood up and walked to the bathroom stripping out of my wedding dress and hoping in the shower.
The wedding was great but it wasn't official. The papers still hadn't come in the mail.
I sighed as the water rushed down my back.
Timothy's P.O.V
I finished helping Bret clean up and walked to my car. Bret and Lincoln walked with me. Lincoln was on the phone with Creek.
"Daddy, Uncle C wants me to spend the dah night," Lincoln said looking up at Bret. Bret held his hand for the phone and Lincoln gave him it.
"Thanks but we can take him tonight. Yeah, she is but-. Are you sure?" He asked. "Ok but you gotta come to get him." He hung up on the phone and looked at Lincoln.
"He's gonna pick you up bud." He said. Lincoln smiled and looked down at his dad's phone and begin playing a game. I chuckled.
"Good luck getting him away from that thing," I said. Bret looked at me.
"He's been getting out of the habit of being on the video games all day." He said. I nodded opening my car door.
"Have you talked to Mel since she went home?" I asked.
"She messaged me telling me that she wanted some alone time." He said.
"It's your wedding day," I said.
"Well considering everything going on right now I don't blame her for wanting it. And besides, it's your fault she stormed off in the first place." He said crossing his arms. I checked my phone seeing a few messages from my doctors.
"True. I'm gonna come to the house in the morning. I will pick up Lincoln on the way." I said. He nodded. "Oh and breakfast in the morning for my angel." He chuckled.
"Yes, sir." He said walking away while holding Lincolns' hand. I got into my car and picked up my phone and dialed a number.
"I'll be there in 4 minutes," I said.
"OK, Liam is at his friend's house for the night." She said. I sighed.
"Thank you, Nicole, for coming with me," I said.
"Of course what are friends for? But I don't understand why you won't tell Mel. She is your daughter." She said.
"The chances of this going downhill is 60%. I didn't want to get her hopes up." I said.
"In other words you mean she walked away before you could?" She said. I rolled my eyes.
"Stay out of my head," I said. She giggled. My heart thumped.
"I can't help but catch your bluff." She said.
"See you soon beautiful," I said.
