Emmett's POV:

I had never thought about what the first date that my mate and I would have would be like. But I could never imagine anything more perfect than this. We were already half way through the poetry and jazz night at the restaurant, but I probably couldn't repeat anything that was performed if I wanted too. I was too busy staring at the angel that was my mate, sitting next to me at the small table.

When she opened the door earlier tonight, I swear I almost felt my heart re-start she was so beautiful. I understood why Alice had me dress this way seeing her, and I made a mental note to thank Alice one day. I heard the man on stage stop reciting his poem and began to snap for him as Jeanie did. A beautiful smile graced her face as the host asked for volunteers for the night, before she looked at me and blushed.

"Are you any good at poetry Jeanie?" (Em)

"What? No.....well I mean I write a bit, but I'm not any good." (J)

"You should go up there, I'll be cheering for you if you do." (Em)

"Oh I have no doubt you'd start to shout and whistle at the end of mine even if I was absolutely dreadful." (J)

"Not if you didn't want me too, but otherwise babe you'd best be ready. Go on though, why not? It'll be fun." (Em)

"Promise you won't laugh?" (J)

"I swear it." (Em)

I watched as she hesitated before a smile spread across her face. She gave me a quick kiss cheek on the face before she stood up and walked across the room to the host. I saw them speaking with one another but couldn't focus on the words as I was focused on her smile and her sparkling blue eyes, and her body in that dress.

"Ladies and Gents we have here a willing volunteer to perform one of her own poems tonight. So let's give it up for Jeanie Eden." (host)

I started to snap as I watched my beautiful mate walk across the stage into the spotlight, and it looked like she belonged there. An angel standing in the light of heaven smiling and looking directly at me before she winked and started to recite her poem, the band beginning to play softly along with her as they had for other artists. The only difference is with Jeanie's poem I listen as if every word falling from her lips are precious jewels, because for me they are.

"A young girl once gave her heart away,
for she was naïve and was easily swayed.
The man took the precious gift she gave,
and broke it to a thousand pieces before going to his grave.
She then locked her heart away and hid the key,
for to have been so betrayed was such a horror for her to see.
Now to confess that I was the girl and for so long I denied love existed,
I thought it only some cruel trick of the mind that was dark and twisted.
Stoney and frozen has my broken heart been since,
I long gave up on dreams of finding my own prince.
Then an angel came along and seemed to like his find,
it wasn't long until he was the only thing that occupied my mind.
Perhaps we'll see if this angel is the one that will break my curse,
for to live another thousand years without love would surely be worse.
 Thank you." (J)

I was on my feet snapping and then clapping rather loudly as she took a short curtsy before leaving the stage. It hadn't been as modern as the other poetry that had been read tonight, that much I knew but the humans that were here tonight still seemed impressed at her poem. I smiled as she walked back towards me, her eyes twinkling as I wrapped her into my arms and gently pushed some of her hair back behind her ear.

"That was amazing Jeanie. You wrote that?" (Em)

"A few years ago I started it but I only just finished it a few weeks ago." (J)

I smiled as I knew for sure now that the angel she mentioned was me. A rush of guilt ran through me as I knew that I was as far from an angel as it probably got, but I couldn't help but be thankful for such an amazing mate. I leaned down and kissed her gently on her soft lips before she pulled away from me and smiled with a mischievous look on her face.

"I know it's not over yet but want to get out of here?" (J)

"Babe, I'd go anywhere with you. Name the place and we'll go there right now." (Em)

"I want to see stars." (J)

"You're wish is my command my lady." (Em)

I had seen a slight look of concern pass across her face at my words before it was replaced with a quiet squeal as I swung her up into my arms can carried her out bridal style. I offered a slight apology to the owner of the restaurant as he stared at us both with an eyebrow raised. I slipped him a few bills on the way out, Jeanie's attention somewhere else, before the owner smiled and told us to come back anytime.

I placed her into Esme's car as gently as I could before shutting the door and going as quickly as humanly possible to the other side. I was racking my brain for a place to take her to see stars until I got a message from Alice. I smiled as I saw what it said.

"John Gable Community Park. Two miles in, follow the candles once you're out of the car. You owe me one bro." (Al)

I smiled and whispered a quiet thanks to Alice before starting the car and heading towards the destination that Alice had apparently been setting up for me. I glanced at Jeanie and saw that she was just staring at me with a soft smile on her face, and I couldn't help but match her smile.
