Fic title: Garden of Greed

Y/N's POV

Surprisingly, I wasn't accepted into Hope's Peak for my Ultimate. For a matter of fact, I didn't have one. They just told me they'd accept me on the condition that I cleaned everything while the Ultimate Maid (I think her name was 'Jojo' or something) to take a break. I accepted, simply because saying I attended Hope's Peak for a period of time would instantly land me almost any job.
It all started with being assigned to tend for the gardens. I'd just finished trimming the hedges and was now looking at the plants that were grown.
They were all lush from all of the TLC that they were receiving from the SHSL maid, so it was hardly a challnge to check up on them. I checked the strawberries, cucumbers, blackberry bushes, eggplants—
Ah, the eggplants. They seemed to be rotting slightly.
I wasn't really told what to do in such a situation, so I had to try and work out what to do with them. I don't think students would appreciate random eggplants, so I just plucked them off of their stems and stuffed them into my bag.
"Y/N, hey!"
"Ah, Kokichi!"
I turned to greet my purple-eyed friend. He'd been one of the only people to ever talk to me. Sure, he claimed that he was just 'getting to know his future maid', but nevertheless I didn't mind the company.
The one thing that's always confused me about Kokichi was his white hair. His eyes were purple, but his hair was as white as snow. I'd been meaning to ask about it for a while.
"Can I have an eggplant, Y/N?"
"Oh, um, sure?" Cautiously, since you knew Kokichi was probably going to light the eggplant on fire or something, you took the food out of your bag and handed it to him.
"Don't look so scared! Nihihi!"
"What are you doing with it?"
"Well, what do you like eggplant, Y/N?"
"What do I like about it?"
"That's what I said."
Though the question could be interpreted in many different ways, I tried to stick to the norma way of thinking. I'd always liked the shade of purple.
"The colour."
"Ah, I see! Welp, see you later!" He didn't even put the eggplant in his bag as he scurried off; he boldly carried it in his arms, cradling it almost, and offered me a smile as he left me to work on my gardening once more.
I sighed at his antics and realised that I was falling for him. I watered some more plants to try and distract myself from everything

The next day

I could never have predicted what I saw the next day.
I was coming to school early to start my errands. Typically, this was my last day before Tojo got back. Then it'd be back to my own school. Back to normal. Back without Kokichi. Just the thought made my heart ache.
That's when I saw him.
He was propped up against the wall, a tennis ball clutched in his hand. He threw it up and down, up, down, up, down, until he stopped. That's when I noticed the hair.
It was purple. He gave me the biggest grin.
"You said you liked the colour of eggplants, Y/N." He shrugged, still smiling. "So I dyed my hair with one."
"Won't that wash out?"
"Then I'll dye it permanently once this washes out. Now, I dyed my hair for you and took an eggplant off of your hands, so you have to do something for me!"
"And what would that be?"
He pushed himself off of the wall and approached me. My feet were rooted to the ground. He pecked me on the cheek and smiled.
"I. Like. You." He said, punctuating each syllable with a clap.
"I. Do. Too." I replied, mimicking his act.

And that was the surprisingly short story of how Kokichi got his first date and his purple hair.
