Fic title: Sundown with Soda.

Y/N's POV

It all happened because I wanted to drink Panta on the school rooftop.
The air was thin and cold and smelled like winter. I twiddled two bottles of Panta between my fingertips and watched th purple liquid inside fizz up before calming. I tripped over my own feet a few times since I wasn't looking where I was going, but I made it to the school rooftop.
Murder hung itself in the breeze as I sat down, my legs dangling off the side of the rooftop.
I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around. I chuckled. "Looking to kill someone too?" I mused aloud to Kokichi.
Kokichi rolled his eyes. "Tch. People would die to be killed by me."
I laughed at him, loudly. "I was joking, yeesh!" I stood, bouncing on my heels and offering him a drink. "Want one?"
"Sure, I suppose. Can't say no to Panta, anyway."
We didn't sit, at first. We stood in the darkness drinking our beverages and tapping our feet.
"You feel it too, right? Murder, I mean." Kokichi asked, somewhat seriously.
"Mhm." I hummed in response, taking a sip of the fizzy drink. Ah, refreshing. "I mean, a murder has to have taken place, right? I mean, with the First Blood Perk and all."
He watched the bubbles in his drink pop. "Well, I'm excited to see where this goes."
"You really like murder that much?'
"No!" He was almost defensive. "Of course I'm not. I'm just curious, you know?"
"I mean," I searched my head to conjure up a lie. "I'm pretty sure it's impossible to like murder more than me."
"You're lying."
"Nu-uh!"
"Your eyes darted to the side and you played with your hair." He capped his drink and pushed it at my chest accusingly, amusingly. "You, good sir, are lying." His bottle was empty. He drew it away from me.
"See you tomorrow?" I asked as he walked away.
"I don't care."
The words stung.

Kokichi's POV

I did not care for Y/N L/N, the SHSL Y/T. I had to worry about ending the killing game first. Only then would I have chance to care about them.
But, out of fear of the Y/T doing something stupid, I kept meeting up with him. We drank Panta together. We discussed Keade's untimely death together. We mused aloud. One thing was for sure - he couldn't lie to save his life. Maybe even literally, if worse came to worse.
I didn't lie; I hid. I didn't cheat; I found loopholes.
He was the polar opposite of me, and yet I still found myself mildly looking forward to our meetings. As much as I never much thought about him, he was an interesting character and I was intrigued by him.
But then, more people died. He was seemingly unfazed, and despite it most likely being a lie, I doubted my intuition and decided to ask him about it one day.
"Y/N." I began as I watched him sit on the roof, legs dangling and sugar-rush fuelled giggles loud. "Y/N, why are you so indifferent to everything?"
"That's rich coming from you." Y/N replied, still seemingly on his sugar-high.
"I mean it, Y/N. Why can't you just bring yourself to care for once? You never seemed to care when people were executed."
"You didn't either."
I sighed. "I cared. I cared because I helped get everyone through that trial safe. You never contributed in any trials. You sat and stared and I want to know why."
My tone was blunt yet sharp. My eyes glared. I cared about him, I realised, and I just wanted to know that he too had the ability to care.
He threw his empty Panta bottle off the roof. He giggled. "Wow! You think I have no heart whatsoever? Wanna play a game? Wanna play a—"
"No! Enough with your stupid games! I want to know you care about this team; Hell, do you even care about me?!" I was yelling at his unturned head, and I knew the words weren't registering with him. I tutted. "Tch. For someone so loud, you sure don't know how to pinpoint your feelings."
He smiled. I know that he smiled because he turned around, beaming and with his eyes shining with hyper-activeness. He stood and pecked me on the cheek. "Yeesh, I just wanted to have some fun by lying. You should try it sometime, really. But I am not lying when I say that I care about everyone here, especially—" he tapped me on the nose with his index finger, "—you!"
I couldn't help but smile at his antics, my anger subsiding slightly. "So you just—"
"—I lie because it's fun. Now, if you date me, I won't be as bored." He explained, simply.
My smile wavered. My plan. The killing game.
I sighed. "I love you. But know this..." I paused for dramatic effect. "What I will do will be for the good of humanity."

Narrator's POV

Kokichi's plan to end the killing game had just been uncovered during the trial. Much to Y/N's despair, Shuichi hit the nail on the head with this one.
Y/N didn't even go to see Kaito's execution - he flew from the trial room and down to the hydraulic press. The bloodied press. Kokichi's blood.
He circled the machine methodically and laid eyes on Kaito's pierced coat sleeve. A note was trapped inside.

Y/N,
I hope you understand my actions.
Make it out alive.
Kaito does know I'm writing this.
Don't tell anyone about this.
I hope Shuichi skipped over this somehow.
Your lover,
Kokichi Oma, the SHSL Supreme Leader.
