Fic title: Shield.

Y/N's POV

I was the SHSL Protector.
I... certainly lived up to my title.
"Stand back everyone," I'd say, taking my weapon of choice and shielding whoever I was with.
"Y/N—"
"This might get messy."
"Y/N, it's a spider, what the Hell—?"
Before they could stop me, I'd be beating a spider with my weapon as everyone around practically eye-rolled into another dimension.
Peko and I got along well, so she introduced to to Fuyuhiko (her 'master') which I took as a compliment since she probably would have slaughtered anyone who so much as spoke to the SHSL Yakuza Member.
However, our friendship grew into more... difficult feelings. I knew it was love but I didn't want to believe it. Peko would stab me into a bloody, fleshy pulp. Fuyuhiko would probably insult me until I cried. So, I repressed these feelings deep into my chest and vowed mentally to never let them slip.
But then that day reared its ugly head.
The day I nearly lost Fuyuhiko.

Fuyuhiko's POV

Myself and Y/N had decided to go out for ice-cream, just the two of us. As much as I wanted it to be a date, neither of us called it that so I supposed that it was just a platonic day out. Despite this, I couldn't say for sure if Peko was watching us from a bush or something.
When we approached the counter I ordered a banana split while Y/N ordered f/f (favourite flavour).
Things were actually pretty calm.
"So, how's everything been? I hear you've been super busy." I asked as we found a booth to sit in.
"Well, yeah..." they replied, staring at their dessert intensely. "I've been being sought after by quite a lot of businesses. Security and all that. I guess going to Hope's Peak does have it perks."
"We should hang out more." I muttered slightly.
"We should, honestly."
I picked at a cherry with my spoon. "Hey, Nekomaru keeps suggesting that we spar each other in the gym at school. Keep both of our skills up and 'bond'... or something like that." I only added the last part in as to not sound too eager.
"Oh, we should." She replied absentmindedly. Her eyes had glazed over with a sense of worry.
"You okay?"
"Hm? Oh, I'm just fine."
"Come on, you don't have to be so defensive all the time."
"Fine."
She took a deep breath and watched her ice-cream melt in the bright and warm sun.
"I guess it's since you're in the Yakuza. I'm just... anxious, or something like that."
I offered her a sad small smile. "Hey. I'll be fine. Peko's always one step behind me. Besides, I don't think they'd even dare with you looking over your shoulder all the time. Try not to worry, for me, okay?"
She stared into my eyes before nodded determinedly. "I'll try."

Y/N's POV

The ice-cream had just about been eaten and the sun was dipping into the horizon. Myself and Fuyuhiko had decided to head back home to see if Peko and the others wanted to do a videogame night.
We'd cut through an alleyway. We didn't think much of it at first - it was still relatively light outside and people were out and about.
"Okay," Fuyuhiko had agreed to my suggestion of playing Smash Bros. "But if anybody plays as Kirby I swear I'll—"
He didn't get to finish. He was promptly tackled to the ground as people - strong-looking, armed people - emerged from the darkness. Fuyuhiko was cursing up a storm, flailing his small body about as he was pinned to the ground.
Instinct rushed over me.
I took my weapon and used it to know over the man on top of Fuyuhiko, soon spinning around to kick another attacker and grabbed Fuyuhiko's hand and fled down the streets.
"Thanks." He muttered, breathing heavily as we veered around the corner to catch our breath.
"We should run."
"Yeah, let's do that."
After having a bit of breath back we dashed down the street with the attackers on our tails until Peko emerged from a nearby bush and slashed a few across the face.
"Mind if we help?" I asked her, spinning my weapon in my hand as Fuyuhiko grabbed his gun.
"Yeah," she said relatively calmly, "this could be a fun alternative to videogame night."
It didn't take long. Just a few good hits to the face got them fleeing like mice. We were all panting by the end of it.
"Well." Fuyuhiko stated. "That... that was a thing."
"I'll go ahead and let you two figure shit out." Peko nodded decisively before leaving us in the dim moonlight.
"Thanks." He said again. "Really. Thanks."
"It's fine. It's my job."
"No, it's just... can I just...?" He just awkwardly wrapped his arms around me in a hug and his face flushed red.
"Aww, is the Boss Baby getting flustered?"
"Oh my God—"
"It's okay." I said, pecking him on the cheek.
"Wh-Wh—"
"That's my thank you for being a really fast runner. I'd be screwed if you couldn't run so fast."
"So... you kissed me... so are we now a thing?"
"Sure."
"Yeah, okay. Sure."

Word count - 903.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh this is shorter than Peko's lifespan and I am so sorry—
