Fic title: Escape.

Y/N's POV

"Go on a killing spree with me?"
Shuichi's question had been so jarringly blunt.
Did I want to? No, not particularly.
Did I feel at least curious about trying to get out of this killing game alive? Of course. It was only natural to at least be curious about leaving.
And he looked so genuinely desperate.
So, I decided to go with him.
The plan was quite simple:
Poison Kirumi's dinner that evening. Monokuma had joked about making cyanide cookies before, so why not take it seriously?
Of course, I knew that Shuichi only wanted vengeance for Kaede. He only wanted to walk out of this killing game to the outside world, even if it cost the lives of his friends. He just chose me to go out with him, and that was that.
We kept the tone light, cracking jokes as we unscrewed the bottles of poison, not caring much about evidence we left behind. Who's stand in our way? Who'd even dare? So long as a maximum of, say, two people found the evidence, it'd be a quick job to get rid of them.
Poison just seemed so much more convenient.
I managed to sneak into Maki's lab (I was the SHSL Escape Artist after all). I figured that the SHSL Child Caregiver might have some sleeping pills which we could make our classmates overdose with. However, when we walked in, the two of us were met with an entertaining surprise.
She was an assassin.
We didn't push our luck - we took a few bottles of various poisons and left.
Then, time scraped by.
By evening, we all sat around the table, and I sipped at my glass of water. It was cold and mildly stormy that day, but the consistent rainfall at least gave us hope that the wall outside had no roof, and we could climb out.
Not that it mattered for the rest of the poor students dining that evening.
Kirumi started by dishing out some bread rolls as a starter, each of which was dusted with a coat of cyanide.
Kokichi was the first to eat, simply because he was the type of person to lick the 'flour' (or what he thought was flour) off of the top of the bread roll before actually eating it. You know the type. He made a confused face but ate the bread anyway.
Everyone else ate, too, taking big bites and chatting.
Six minutes was all it took for the first victim to start coughing.
It was Ryoma, since he was the smallest and the poison would take less time to travel around his body. He covered his mouth, choking on his own spit, and fell off of his chair. The rest followed suit, the last one to die being Kokichi.
He smiled up at us.
"At least you w-weren't boring."
He fell still a second later.
Shuichi looked me in the eyes as we stood in a sea of corpses, our friends' corpses, and he hugged me. I was taken aback by the gesture, but didn't pull away. He took my hand. He was smiling. "We did it. Y/N, we did it! I knew we could survive this killing game!"
As expected, Monokuma popped in for a visit. Even he seemed shocked, but almost gratefully shook our hands. "Upupupupu! Thank you both so much for making our fifty-third killing game so interesting! Your freedom and true memories lay just beyond the wall, which is being torn down for you as we speak. Thanks for participating." Under his breath, he mumbled, "See you next season!"
I didn't know what he meant by that; was he going to interview us in the upcoming spring or what? Whatever he meant, I didn't care. I'd survived the killing game with my crush, Shuichi Saihara.
I'd taken a liking to him since the start of the game. But to have survived with him... glorious.
Just then, I felt an ache invade my chest. I look at Shuichi, concerned.
He merely smiled back. "Did you not taste the poison in your water?"
Dread fell over me like a thick fog. "Sh-Shuichi..." I leaned back in my chair.
Shuichi turned his back to me. "Sorry, Y/N, I couldn't have managed to get into Maki's lab without your help. It's just what I had to do, to fulfil Kaede's wish, to end this killing game once and for all. Such a shame... you're the SHSL Escape Artist and yet you couldn't escape me."
"I-I loved you..." I hissed, clutching at my chest, a faintness casting itself over me.
"And I loved you, to some degree. I just loved Kaede more. No hard feelings. Though, I feel as though you should at least have a glimpse at the outside world for helping me."
He lifted me up and placed me on my feet, allowing me to use him as a crutch as we stumbled to the entrance of the school.
A sea of people holding up banners, something about 'Danganronpa', cheering our names. I smiled. I couldn't escape Shuichi, but I could escape my death for a few more minutes if I focussed hard enough on my fans, whatever they were fans of me for.
Shuichi pecked me on the cheek. "Thank you." He said, with some degree of remorse. "It was for Kaede's wish."
The world went black around me.
I barely caught what he said last.
"But... my wish was to be with you. Which wish should I have fulfilled?"
