*~*~*~*~*

The alarm blared into my ears, sounding louder than it usually does. My eyes felt heavy as I pried them open. A sliver of sunlight reflected onto the floor from the crack between my curtains, and I slowly sat up. My throat felt dry and scratchy, and my face ached. I pinched the bridge of my nose and when I inhaled through my nose it turned into a loud sniff.

I had a feeling I was getting sick, I had felt a little off all week and my throat had been dry since yesterday. A cough racked my chest as I threw off my covers. Off all days to get sick, it had to be that day. Kakashi and I had an important mission the next day, and he and I planned on training in preparation for it today. I felt a chill run through my body as I grabbed my clothes from my dresser and went to take a shower.

The steam from the shower cleared my clogged sinuses for the short while that I was in there, but as soon as I stepped out they plugged up once more. I quickly dried myself off, but I was stepping into my pants I violently sneezed and almost fell over. I heaved an annoyed sigh when I recovered and finished getting dressed. I placed a dry towel around ,t shoulders and allowed my wet hair to drip into it.

I knew there was no way to make a full recovery in a day, but I knew there were methods that would make it bearable. I went into my kitchen and began heating up water to make tea. As I turned on the stove I heard a knock at the door. I left my pot and went to see who was there. I reached for the doorknob and had it in my hand when I felt myself beginning to sneeze. I let go of the knob and sneezed loudly into my sleeve. After I was sure I wasn't going to sneeze again, I opened the door.

"I came to see if you were ready to go, but after what I heard I'd take it you're not?" Kakashi stood there with his arms crossed over his chest. I was about to respond, but I was interrupted by a cough.

I answered him once I cleared my throat, "I'll be fine after I drink some tea."

He gave me a skeptical look, but still followed me into the kitchen where my teapot was screeching. I turned off the flame and poured myself some. I offered Kakashi a cup which he took. We stood in my kitchen just sipping tea in silence for a few moments until he spoke up.

"You picked a great time to get sick," Kakashi commented, taking a long sip. I rolled my eyes and sniffled.

"Yeah I know," I replied. "I'll be fine by tomorrow, so it doesn't matter."

"I have a hard time believing that." Kakashi raised an eyebrow at me, but I waved him off and placed my cup in the sink. I left for a moment and returned with a brush for my hair. When I came back he was sitting on my couch and motioning me for me to go close to him. I finished brushing my hair and put the brush on my coffee table. I sat next to him and looked at him, showing that I was listening.

"How about we skip training today and I'll stay here and take care of you," Kakashi suggested, not at all seeming phased by the words that he was speaking. I raised my eyebrows in surprise, and I wasn't sure how I felt about what he had said.

On one hand, staying home sounded much more favorable to me than trying; however, on the other hand, Kakashi, a person whom I had developed a slight crush on, had offered to stay and dote on me. We were relatively close friends, so the only thing that would make this awkward was the fact that I had some lingering feelings for him.

After a few moments of silence I spoke up, "And why would you do that?"

"Because tomorrows mission is important and I can't do I alone," Kakashi shrugged. "Besides, if it's you I'm taking care of I really don't mind all that much."

Although it wasn't exactly a compliment, my cheeks began to heat up slightly. When I looked towards him I could swear that he was smirking, despite his mask covering his face. I sighed heavily when I realized there was really nothing I could do to protest. I sniffed loudly before coughing, and I was about to get up to get another cup of tea before Kakashi stopped me.

"Just sit, I'll get it," He sent me a closed eyed smile as I huffed quietly and sunk back into the couch. I watched him as he poured a cup of tea and brought it back to me. He set it on the table in front of us and I let out a loud cough. He didn't say anything and instead he pulled down the blanket I kept draped over the back of my couch. Before I could process what he was doing, the blanket was around my shoulder and his arm was pulling me into him.

"Kakashi, what're you-"

I was interrupted by another bout of coughing. He waited for me to finish before replying to the portion of a question I had managed to say.

"You looked cold," He said nonchalantly and I felt heat rise to my face again. I suppressed it and leaned into him a little more, enjoying the warmth radiating from him. I felt my eyes close slowly and I willed sleep to come over me.
