hey it's toots! I was watching this arc in the show when I got this idea so i hope you enjoy. the ending is meh but it's fine lol. also i have a part 3 final to the sasuke story for the person who requested that lol expect that in the next couple days.

The sunlight filtered through the blinds of my bedroom and I was stirred out of sleep. The blankets had fallen off of me through the night and were twisted around my waist. I sat up slightly, propping myself up on my elbows. I glanced beside me and saw the space empty. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion.
My parents would kill me if they found out I had let my boyfriend stay the night, and in my bed no less; of course that never stopped it from happening. Shikamaru and I had been dating for a long time, and he came over often. He usually stayed until the morning though and said goodbye to me before sneaking out.
He must've had something to do, I thought as I took the covers off and went to take a shower. As I turned on the water, I kept thinking about him.
He had been in a bad place since Asuma Sensei died about a week ago. He came to me last night, his face a mix of determination and grief. His cheeks were stained with tears and I comforted him the best I could. We didn't have to be secretive, as both of my parents were out on a mission.
He had been acting odd, and he had been more clingy than usual and he was rather affectionate; not that he wasn't to begin with, but it was never to that extent.
I stepped into the shower and washed myself quickly. I was finished getting dressed and busy wrapping my hair in a towel when someone began frantically knocking on the front door. My parents warned me to be cautious of answering the door when they weren't home, but it would be impossible to ignore someone knocking in this way.
I ran down the stairs and flung open the door to find Sakura and Sai standing there. I looked at them both weirdly, it was odd for them to both come to my house like this.
"Good morni-"
"(Y/N), how quickly can you be ready?" Sakura asked and I was taken aback by her urgent tone.
"I can be ready in five minutes once I do my hair, why?" I asked, becoming more and more worried. I had a bad feeling this had something to do with Shikamaru, I knew his behavior wasn't normal last night.
"Shikamaru, Ino, Choji and Kakashi Sensei went to find the Akatsuki who killed Asuma Sensei," Sakura explained and my heart dropped. "Lady Tsunade wants Team Kakashi to go back them up, and since you know Shikamaru best we wanted to bring you too."
I nodded quickly, "Alright, I'll be down as fast as I can."
I was ready to go in less than two minutes. I followed Sakura and Sai out of my house and to where Naruto was training. The whole time I couldn't stop thinking about Shikamaru, my worry was growing with every step I took. Sakura had told me that Team Kakashi could only go if Naruto finished his training, and I was worried about how long that would be.
"How long did you say it would take him again?" I asked, my heart beat echoing in my ears. Sakura turned to me as we jumped from tree to tree.
"Lady Tsunade gave him twenty four hours early this morning," Sakura explained. "He's been working at it since then."
I nodded slowly, taking a slow breath as we reached his training area. My eyes widened as I saw the various craters in the ground. Naruto was making another rasengan in his hands when we arrived. Sakura and Sai stopped on the outskirts of the clearing, and I stood close behind them.
We sat and watched him as the hours ticked by and my anxiety grew by the minute. All my thoughts were of him and I was hoping with every fiber of my being he would be alright. I closed my eyes for a moment and I thought back to last night.
