*~*~*~*~*~*

"Oh god I'm so worried," I sat on the edge of the bed, my elbows on my knees and my head in my hands. One of the aides sat beside my and placed her hand on my upper arm and her other on my back.

"Everything will be fine Lady (Y/N)," She spoke in a soft voice. "Your husband is the most powerful shinobi anyone has ever seen, and he will protect the village and you with all he has."

I knew she was right, but I couldn't help it. The look in his eyes when he was told Madara was attacking the village was burned into my memory. It was a mix of hurt and betrayal. Hashirama had a big heart and he looked for the best in people; he refused to give up on Madara, as he still believed there was good within him, despite what I and the other ninja close to him said.

I sat in our bedroom in the hokage building and looked out through the window. The night sky was filled with stars and the moonlight cast a soft glow over the sleeping townspeople. None of them were aware of the battle waging outside the village, and I almost envied them. My long robe dragged slightly on the floor as I got up from the bed and went to the window. I dismissed the aide from the room, requesting to be alone.

I turned off the light on the small table beside the bed and looked back outside. The room darkened and the moon's soft glow gave the room a relaxing atmosphere, something I would normally find enjoyable but I was too worried to think about that.

I was about to turn away from the window and try to get some sleep when I was startled by a loud explosion outside. I gasped and quickly turned around to see a large smoke cloud rising in the distance, from it came the beast known as the nine tailed fox. My breath caught in my throat, this could put the village in serious danger. I wanted to do something, I needed to do something, but my feet were frozen in place.

I watched in horror as the beast began to form a large ball of light in its mouth, but to my surprise A large stone looking figure punched it, stopping the attack. By now, much of the village was awake and probably watching this battle of giants. It raged on for awhile until finally the fox and the wooden figure disappeared after a final explosion, the loudest of the bunch.

My heart was beating faster than ever before and I couldn't just stand idly by a moment longer. I rushed out of the room, slipping on some shoes on my way. I ran down the halls of the building and out into the night air. It was now quiet once more, which caused my anxiety to skyrocket. The aides were running after me, begging me to stop.

"I have to go see what happened!" I pleaded with them, tears welling up in my eyes. The aides understood and allowed me to leave, but they refused to leave my side. We rushed to the site of the battle, hopping from tree to tree at a speed I didn't think possible. After what felt like a long time we came to a large gash in the earth.

"They caused all,.this..." My voice trailed off as I followed the trail of carnage with my eyes. I gulped and looked down into the gorge to see Madara lying face down and Hashirama standing near him. A small amount of relief flooded through my. It faded as quickly as it came when he fell to his knees. My aides and I rushed down quickly to catch him before he fell to the ground. I managed to catch the upper half of his body in my arms. I kneeled on the ground and laid his head across my lap.

"(Y-Y/N)..." He trailed off, sounding pained and exhausted. I ran my hand over his cheek softly. I wanted to say something reassuring to him, but I wasn't sure what that would be.

"How could I have let this happen?" He muttered, closing his eyes. "Why did it have to come to this?"

"None of this is your fault," I spoke softly, taking one of his hands in my own. "Madara chose his own path and you chose yours, you couldn't have predicted or prevented any of this."

He closed his eyes once more, and I could tell the exhaustion was taking over him. I could tell he was torn up inside at having to do away with his friend in such a manner. I took his arm gingerly and wrapped it around my shoulder. I wrapped my arm around his waist and pulled him up.

He did his best to limp beside me after we jumped out of the gorge. The sun was beginning to rise as we returned to the village. His eyelids were drooping and in the growing light I could see the various injuries all over his body, some more serious than others. We stepped through the village gates and a crowd awaited us, they began cheering when they saw him.

He looked around in exhausted surprise at the villagers.

"They're grateful, you protected them," I whispered to him and he continued to look around in bewilderment. "Even if what just happened has turned you away from this job, please continue doing it for them."

He looked like he had internalized my words as we returned to the hokage's building. With the help of my aides, we placed him on our bed and sent for some healers. I stayed by his side, and he held tightly onto one of my hands.

"Thank you, (Y/N), for always being on my side and assuring me that I'm doing the right thing," He said quietly as sleep took over him. I smiled in response and gently ran my thumb over his hand,

"That's what I'm here for," I responded, placing a kiss on his forehead. He gave me a small smile before drifting off to sleep. I looked over him with a somber expression, knowing all the emotions and thoughts that would torment him once he woke up. I would be there for him though, at every step of the way as he dealt with that and became the best leader the world had ever seen.
