Part 41

EXT. OUTSIDE CITY HALL – DAY

The children gather outside the buildings with picket signs. CONNER stands at the front and waves a giant flag. GINA, NANCY, and DARCY all join him in the protest.

CONNER: It's time to riot! Free Ambrose! He did nothing wrong!

GINA walks in with a goat on a leash.

GINA: Guys, I brought a goat.

DARCY: Dude, why did you bring a goat?

GINA: It might make the mayor take us more seriously.

DARCY: There are goats everywhere, I don't think he will notice one on a leash.

GINA: Have you seen a goat on a leash before?

DARCY: No.

GINA: I thought so. Excuse me while I feed Allen some chocolate.

CONNER: You're feeding a goat chocolate?

NANCY: Chocolate is part of the important food groups.

GINA: Yes, exactly.

Gina walks away with her goat in search for some chocolate.

CONNER (mutters): At least I can say I'm not the only chaotic one around here anymore.

DARCY: What do we do now? Do we yell?

NANCY: I guess?

CONNER: Guys, come on. It's a riot! You have to be angry.

DARCY: Uhhh... angry?

CONNER: Yes, angry! This is why our last riot failed. We need to be serious.

NANCY: I don't think I can do that.

DARCY: I don't think so either.

CONNER: Alright...

Conner looks around before spotting a stone on the ground. He picks it up and places it into Nancy's hand. Nancy is confused.

CONNER CONT'D: How about you guys throw stuff?

NANCY: Throw stuff?

CONNER: Yeah, you know. Throw some rocks at the building to get more attention. Being disruptive is an art.

NANCY: Wouldn't we get in trouble?

CONNER: Roch is off duty. He can't do anything anymore.

Nancy weakly throws the stone at the building but it lands a few feet away from her. Not too long after, people copy her action by throwing various items at city hall.

DARCY CONT'D: Uh, are we supposed to do that?

NANCY: I think so. Good job.

VANESSA enters the scene and is confused. She puts two fingers into her mouth and whistles loudly. The crowd stops and stares at her.

VANESSA CONT'D: What are you doing? This violence won't make anyone listen especially with Roch off duty. Do you think the mayor is even in there?

CONNER: No, but chaos is fun.

VANESSA: We're on a goddamn floating island, you idiots will make it sink at this point. Nobody is going to listen and you're wasting energy. What you really should do is find more clues.

NANCY: But we haven't found anything in a week...

VANESSA: And rioting won't help with anything. Actually, it could make things worse.

DARCY: You have a point...

VANESSA: Good, now go do your chores. I know a lot of your guys are skipping.

The crowd disperses and Conner kicks the ground in frustration.

CONNER CONT'D: If nothing happens again in another three days, I swear we're rioting.
