Su-mi was born on September 1, 1997 to her parents, Park Eunji and Park Chan-Ho in Daejeon, South Korea.

Park Chan-Ho, Su-mi's father was the Head of Legal Compliance and Support and a Board Member of SK Telecom. Su-mi inherited her father's hardworking spirit.

Park Eunji was a doctor at the Daejeon Eulji Medical Center. Su-mi's mother was very caring and always wanted to help people, which is a trait that Su-mi inherited. Park Eunji's father, Su-mi's grandfather was the Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, but sadly passed away in December of 2002.

Park Eunji and Park Chan-Ho were extremely loving parents that helped shape Su-mi into who she is today.

When Su-mi was 4, her parents enrolled her in ballet and gymnastics, which Su-mi continued to participate in until she was 11.

On August 25, 2005, Su-mi's parents left Su-mi in the care of Eunji's brother and sister-in-law, who happen to be Park Hyung Sik's parents. Su-mi's parents left to celebrate their 10 year anniversary in Tahiti.

Su-mi's parents booked plane tickets back to South Korea for August 31st, so that they could get back in time for Su-mi's eighth birthday.

The plane experienced turbulence along the route back to South Korea and the airplane propeller was damaged. The plane crashed 35 miles outside of Beijing, China.

Su-mi's family was devastated by the news of her parents death.

Su-mi was sent to live with her father's sister in Strasbourg, France.

The years following her parents death were hard for Su-mi. She often experienced night terrors and panic attacks. Su-mi has had to visit a psychiatrist since the event. As a way to cope with the stress of her parents death, a psychiatrist recommended that Su-mi play Futbol/soccer. Su-mi started playing soccer at age 8 and continued to play until she was 13.

Su-mi enjoyed her time living in France with her aunt. Su-mi's aunt was a spontaneous and peculiar woman, alike Su-mi's father.

Su-mi's aunt gave Su-mi many freedoms and was never very strict with her. Su-mi always had many academic achievements.

Su-mi has always been interested in linguistics and by the age of 10, Su-mi was fluent in 3 languages.

In August of 2011, Su-mi wanted to learn another language, so she used a minuscule portion of her inheritance from her parents to fly to Shanghai, China and live with her second cousins, Ha-won and Ha-yoon. Su-mi became fluent in Mandarin, which is a skill that she very much appreciates.

In January of 2012, Su-mi was walking around Shanghai with Ha-yoon, when she was approached by a talent scout, who commented on Su-mi's beauty and asked if she would be interested in a modeling opportunity in Seoul. Ha-yoon and Ha-won urged Su-mi to accept the offer.

In February, Su-mi was at the photo shoot when she was approached by Bang Shi Hyuk to be a potential trainee at his entertainment company. Su-mi discussed the offer with Hyung Sik, who was an idol in the group ZE:A. Hyung Sik told Su-mi that she should try it out and audition because she might enjoy the experience.

Su-mi went to the audition and was accepted.

Even though Su-mi trained to be an idol, she never really expected to debut. In the event that she didn't debut, Su-mi wanted and still wants to be a lawyer. Alas, Su-mi was lucky enough to debut.

Su-mi is an intelligent girl and knows that once BTS disbands, she will most likely be left without a career if she doesn't continue to pursue being a soloist or an actress. In the event of BTSs' disbandment she wants to make sure that she has her law degree completed and is prepared to take the bar exam so that she can be a lawyer.
