Ami wakes up from a third consecutive fitful night of very odd dreams.
Ami's belonging mate "first" squeals weakly, 'Ami!'. Ami lays a hand on "first" who lays collapsed across the medical bed.
"hubby and "second" whisper to "first": "OK, you promised to get rest when Ami woke up. We will take you."
"first" repeats Ami's name as they take her out of the room.
The lead medical supervisor walks in telling Ami how "First" had given wounds to big strong orderlies with fast blows (just by reacting when they sought to carry her to a place to rest). None of the orderlies wanted to get near to "First" anymore. How does that make you feel?
Ami spends time breathing and clearing her head.
The lead medical supervisor talks to Ami in a calm, measured tone.
"I suspect you will be interested in hearing about and involving yourself in the care of your own body on the other plane. If you are strong enough to go to the facilities in this room on your own, I will allow you to see the test results."
Ami spends time to take in several deep breaths.
She starts to walk to the nearby room, but stops to sit on the bed. Not strong enough to walk with any confidence.
Ami thinks about "first". Clearly "first" was over wrought. Ami knows how being a protector is "first''s self identity. She tells the medical lead that "First" should not be given space to press herself that hard.
Ami is a belonger to "first", so Ami can set a 'demand'. "First" must not become too tired and not rational. If she does, "first" must complete ten hours of mental rest cycles (no matter how long she takes to complete them). Ami's other two Lan Belongers can explain it to her if needed.
Looking to the medical supervisor, Ami says, "We should not allow her to suffer like that again."
He tells her that she can have access to the data and also get physical help move around.
After he leaves, Ami thinks his voice is familiar. She met him just days ago, but his manner of talking strikes as a vague memory.
