Arlow looks up at the hovering winged creature.
She is getting just perceptively smaller. Not moving further away, becoming smaller.
"Yes! Yes, I accept!" Arlow blurts out in a self-surprised tone. The way she was shrinking, she might vanish in a flash.
The hovering girl swoops down to grab Arlow by the wrist.
Curtains of light and shimmer enfold and then open up to a wide panorama. Lighty misty. Undefined, but endless. Arlow sets a foot to the 'floor'.
"Arlow, ohh Arlow. We both know Earth is a ridiculous place. I am so happy you knew the right thing.
I created this pocket universe for someone like you. It is shielded against time, so you will be safe here until things will become right again. Safe again."
There a gust of wind and Arlow finds himself holding an ungainly book. Very wide and the binding gives no resistance to the book swinging open.
Only in trying to make sure the book does not fall, Arlow find himself seated.
The book does not change size, but in sitting with crossed legs, perfect to hold on the knees. Like Arlow used to do when a small child. Reading books folded out in his lap.
A faint, receding, dream-familiar voice behind him: "Stay here, Arlow. I will be back. The book will explain everything."
It was an amazing book. The illustrations were vibrant and active. So many stories. Arlow had so much to learn.
As time went on learning from the book. Arlow realized that most places in the Multi-verse were not particularly safe for humans.
