It's a Family Affair

"Hey Rai, did Chad and Malik say they when they were playing to hook back up with us?" Jeannette asked while texting on her phone. "Naw, I haven't heard from them since they left us at the spa. All I know is before we go to this park we need to get something to eat cause I'm starving." I was sitting on the love seat scrolling through netflix. "Like Marvin" Johana added. Regina looked at her with a blank "I'm not amused face" and me and Jeannette bust out laughing. "So what we gonna get? And Imma text Malik to see what they want cause I ain't spending all that money to eat them restaurants there." Regina said while pulling out her phone. We were supposed to be going to the Disney parks today. I could've done without it, but for some reason they were hype about it. "Well it don't really matter to me, I planned to spend big this week anyway." Johana said nonchalantly as she stretched out on the floor scrolling on fb on her phone. Regina smacked her teeth and screw faced Johana. "Some of us have responsibilities to tend to a day to day basis and can't just go splurging whenever the moods hit us." Johana scrunched her face up and sat up facing Regina. "Here we go" I put down the remote to play umpire in the debate that was about to happen. "Excuse you, I work a 9-5 just like the rest of y'all and pay my own bills, so what is you saying." Screwing her top lip up and popping her neck. "Little girl...." before Regina could start I interrupted " Uh uhn! Nope! Not today, come on y'all dont start, we left the drama at the airport. I'm definitely not in the mood for this." I said pointing to both of them. "Ain't nobody starting anything. I got kids, a mortgage, a husband, you know REAL responsibilities." Regina said shaking her head "Shit, juggling niggas trying to keep them from finding out about each other is not exactly classified as responsibility little girl." Johana sat up on her knees " Yo, you big mad cause I ain't tie myself down to a ain't shit ass nigga that you stressed the fuck out while he play videos and fuck bitches while you slave to take care of his ass." I stood up positing myself between the two of them just incase somebody decided to buck. "Yo! Cut that shit out." Regina stood up "first all you don't even know what the fuck you talking about lil girl and secondly you better gone head with all that before I knock some since into yo ass." Johana stood up putting her phone on the table. "Its whatever yo, you not just gone sit her n try to play me like imma pussy ass hoe or something." Jeannette had got up and came around the table to join me. I was pushing Johana back and Jeannette was standing in front of Regina telling her to calm down. "JoJo chill out ok. Please." I said while grabbing her face making her look me in my eyes.
There was a knock at the door and I motioned for Jeannette to go answer it for me. "I got it" I assured her while standing in a way that I could see both of their movements. I didn't think we were that loud, but you never know, this was a five start hotel. When I seen Chad and Malik coming my way I let a sigh of relief. "What y'all in here about to have a cat fight?!" He asked while laughing standing next to me. "Dude shit just got real in here...quick. I think we need to head out and let the fresh air clear our heads" I said eyeballing Regina and Johanna. Regina just huffed and sat back down and Johanna went and sat on the couch. "Yeah, that sounds like a plan to me" Jeannette added as she put on her waist bag. "Let me just use the bathroom, then we can be out." I left the room knowing Malik and Chad wouldn't let them fight. "Yo, y'all immature as fuck, fighting and shit like y'all ain't family." I heard Malik say as I went to my room.
I thought about his statement. Johanna was my "lil sister" through the boys and girls club program and after finding out about the background she came from my parents decided to adopt her, so she really was family. Me and Jeannette met in grammar school and when we got paired together on an assignment we became inseparable. I met Regina and Chad through my job and Malik, well I gave you the background on us already. As each member was added to the group we all just clicked in different ways, so although we weren't blood we really were family. We definitely spent more time together than we did with our blood relatives. I had finished using the bathroom, so I washed my hands with the fruity smelly hand soap, dried them on one of the decorative towels, checked my reflection in the body sized mirror on the bathroom door and headed back out with group. When I stepped in they were all laughing at a movie on netflix. Shaking my head I got their attention. "Eyyy, let's be out!" I said loudly going to the door holding it open.

We were just on our way to the "twilight zone tower of terror" when Chad grabbed this pretty chocolate female and started groping her up. At first she looked alarmed cause he caught he from behind. As he started whispering something in her ear and nibbling on her neck she gave this childlike giggle and pulled him closer to her. Ok, it's safe to say they knew each other I guess. There was another female with her and she was rolling her eyes at the two of them. Malik stepped up to talk to her and her face softened as she gave him a small smile. The rest of us just looked lost. I don't know about them, but it I felt like a perv watching this intimate moment. "Ahm ahm..." Regina fake cleared her throat and we started chuckling. "Oh my bad. This is Khali, Khali these are my good friends Rain, Johanna, Jeannette and Regina." He said turning in our direction with her still in his arms. "Nice to meet y'all" she smiled shyly and waved. "This is Kandace, Kandace everybody." That was Maliks introduced and we just laughed. "So what y'all doing here. If y'all alone I'm sure my friends wouldn't mind y'all chilling with us." Chad said it to Khali, but loud enough for us to hear him. "Oh that would cool." Johanna said biting her bottom lip. I scrunched my face up, what was up with that, I wondered. "Yeah we good wit it." I added. "No problem" Regina said. "The more the merrier" that was Jeannette. "We'll we were just here spending time with our big brother,the went to get some slushies....oh here he comes now" we all turned in the direction Kandace was looking to and I seen Bryson walking towards us with 3 slushies in his arms. Once he saw me his face lit up with a pretty white smile. Family oriented,  pretty smile...check and check (lol).  "Ok, now I feel like you stalking me." I said laughing playfully as I grabbed one of the drinks to hand it to his sister. He smacked his teeth and gave me that smile again "Gone head girl" he gave his other sister her drink and then came to me giving me a side hug. "How you two know each other?" Kandace asked. I noticed she had been watching me like a hawk since I spoke to him from my peripheral view. "Yeah, we met back home. Jean Brenner hair dresser for years." Bryson spoke up before I could. "Hmmm....I can't tell from looking at it now." Kansas said quietly, but it was loud enough for us all to hear. "You good?" Malik asked her as she put her one hand on her hip, snapped her neck and pushed her lips out to drink from the straw. "Yo..." Bryson started "Uhn uhn...cause what you ain't gon do right now is try to play my sister." Johanna stepped up. "Chill.. its cool, I can handle myself JoJo." I said calmly grabbing her by the arm. "I'm just saying...trying to advertise for my sister when her hair looking a hot mess...the fuck." She turned her head to the side and screwed up her lip. "Hold up, hold up now." That was Regina taking off her hoop earrings. "Youn even know my girl like that, but if it's a problem we can definitely fix it" Jeannette grabbed Regina "Chill out Gina" Bryson stepped forward and handed me his drink to hold. "Yo Kandace, lemme put a bug in ya ear real quick" he said snatching her away roughly, she almost dropped her drink. "I'm sorry y'all. She get cranky when she tired and hot." Khali said looking embarrassed. "You ain't gotta apologize for her, I'm good. Shiiiit...on my worse day I better than bitches trying to floss."  And made myself busy on my phone. "Ok sis" Johanna instigated. "Them slushies got my mouth parched. Who coming with me to get one?" Jeannette was trying to change the subject. "Let me ask you real quick, what other part of your body gets parched other than yo mouth." Regina asked laughing. "Obviously any part, cause your knuckles could sure use some water right about now." Jeannette shit back snacking her teeth as we all started dying laughing as we walked to the stand.
"Ey, why you just stand there and let you friend talk to Rain like that. I thought that was your homegirl." Johanna had pulled Malik to the side. "Yo, they had it handled, chill out with all that hype shit, it's not always necessary." He commented calmly. "Naw, cause I'm saying, I expected you of all people to have her back" she countered. "Listen relax, just know that she wasn't getting through me to touch Rain and that's all that matters." And with that he walked back and joined the group. Once we all started ordering Bryson and Kandace made they way back to us. She had her head slightly down and gave me an apology that seemed rehearsed. I accepted her apology and Bryson came closer putting his hand on the small of my back. "You good beautiful?" He asked. "Yeah, I'm cool." As I put my head down to drink from the straw I felt his hands in my hair. He undid my bun and started running his fingers through my thick curls. "All this pretty ass hair. Why you hiding it?!" I chuckled and shrugged my shoulders. Looking over at Kandace I was satisfied to see her looking at us with a boo boo face. I started to stick my tongue out, but refrained from being childish. It would be a shame to see such a pretty girl get fucked up on this nice sunny day.
