"Happy birthday!!" Cordelia clapped as she entered the bedroom where Lucifer was still asleep. He was mumbling something incoherent into the mattress. "What was that?" She asked as she hopped playfully onto the birthday boy. "Happy birthday to you too!" He laughed as he came out from under his pillow mound and embraced her. Yes, the couple shared a birthday, and so they decided to take a little vacation to California. He didn't tell anyone from Devildom that they would be leaving Seattle. He didn't want any unscheduled visits. They always planned something for his birthday. He kind of felt bad ditching them but at the same time, they always seemed to go way too over the top or something would end up going wrong. He just wanted to relax for one birthday. No brothers, no Diavolo, no chaos.

Lucifer ordered a breakfast feast for both of them. While they ate, they mapped out their plan for the day. They decided to divide the day up by choosing a place they would like to go, followed by a place the other wanted to go to. Cordelia was first. She wanted to go to the boardwalk flea market to look for cute, unique things. She loved flea markets and old thrift shops and the area they were in had a few interesting places. After that Lucifer wanted to go to a record store that they had along the same boardwalk. He was looking to expand his collection and heard it was a pretty big store with every genre he could imagine. It was probably much better than the selection in Devildom. Cordelia then chose to go to a cute diner near the beach that was 50s themed. It was very cutesy and they had the best burgers in town. At first, Lucifer wasn't sure if it was an appropriate birthday meal, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized that it would be an experience. He was so used to "high society" but being with Cordelia made him try a more variety of things. It made him feel freer. Finally, Lucifer chose the last location. "Okay, so you get to finish out the night. What are we going to do?" Cordelia asked? "It's a secret," Lucifer answered.

At the flea market, Cordelia found the cutest shell wind chime. "Oh! Lucifer, can we get this for your patio. It's so cute!" She squealed enthusiastically. Honestly, Lucifer thought it was particularly ugly but he looked at Cordelia holding it up with such a gleeful look on her face. "Sure. We can put it up when we get back to Seattle." He smiled. He realized what a dangerous game he was playing here. He had never been able to say no to her. Part of him hated it, but her requests were never out of line so he was thankful for that, even if it meant hanging up a tacky decoration. Along the way, Cordelia had found a few cute sunhats, a cute pair of sandals, and some sunglasses. Lucifer even found himself a pair of sunglasses as well.

They came across a table full of shell jewelry and of course, Cordelia had to check it out. "Oh! Look Lucifer! These are so cute!!" She chimed. She ran toward the booth and left him behind. He laughed as he made his way over to the booth. "Don't run off like that. I could lose you." He giggled as he laced his fingers through hers. While Cordelia was looking, Lucifer noticed what seemed to be "couples" necklaces. He noticed Cordelia had spotted them a few seconds earlier and looked like she wanted to say something but dismissed it. While she was occupied looking at some bracelets, Lucifer picked out a pair of dark blue shell necklaces. He would present them to her later.

They headed to the diner with bags in hand. Bags from the flea market and from the record store. Lucifer would definitely have to go back sometime. He had spent over an hour in there and still didn't get a chance to see everything. He wanted more time, but he heard Cordelia's stomach growl, although she tried to hide it. Lucifer actually really enjoyed the small diner. There was decor from back in the fifties and they had newspaper clipping and pictures of celebrities on the wall like Frank Sinatra. The food was surprisingly decent as well. He never thought he'd like regular human food like cheeseburgers, but he did. Maybe being with someone you loved made it better though.

The sun was setting soon and it was time to go to the next location, Lucifer's surprise location. He took Cordelia's hand and they walked barefoot, down the beach together. That was a nice surprise. She didn't think Lucifer would like that sort of thing but the look on his face made her smile brightly. "What?" Lucifer asked smiling back. "Nothing. You just... You look really happy." She answered. "I am." He chuckled. "Why wouldn't I be? I have everything I want right here. The beach, the setting sun, the ocean... You. Wait, here I got you a gift." He handed her a small box. "What? I thought today was the gift. I didn't get you anything." Cordelia whined. "Don't worry. It's for both of us. Open it." Cordelia opened it to see the two necklaces and gasped. "Oh Luci, they're beautiful. You got these at the little stall." She smiled. "Yes, I saw you looking at them. One for you and one for me. I will wear it forever." He confirmed. She hugged him tightly. "I didn't think they would be your thing so I didn't say anything. I love it. Thank you! I'll always wear mine too!"

Lucifer continued to walk with her to a small blanket he had one of his many assistants set up. They sat down to drink some champagne and watch the sunset. "Don't you miss your home? I mean, you're a very important demon. You had the best of everything down there. Am I really that special to be able to keep you away from all of that?" Cordelia asked. Lucifer was shocked that she was asking that question. "Of course you are! Cordelia... I have been around for thousands of years. As awkward as it is to say this to my current girlfriend, I have had a lot of partners in my life... However, I have never someone that makes me feel the way that I do. You make me find joy in the littlest of things. You're so upbeat, positive, bubbly. Honestly, people like that generally annoy me but not you. You make me feel the same way. I'm not stressed or upset half as much as I am down in Devildom. When I get stressed, I look forward to seeing you when I get home." Lucifer pulled her in close to his side and wrapped his coat around her.

"Oh..." - "Oh?" Cordelia shrugged. "You have been around for thousands of years, haven't you?" We have been dating for almost a full year. You just missed my 24th birthday, we met just before it and now here I am, turning 25 this year. Next year will be 26, then 27, 28. I'll keep growing older and you'll still be the same." Lucifer understood now. She was human and he was not. He had to have been over three thousand years old. He couldn't even remember. Of course, she would feel insecure about something like this and he got it, it scared him too.

He didn't like the frown on her face, no one should ever be sad on their birthday. "Hey, none of that. We are here, at the beach, at sunset. It's our birthday and we are going to enjoy it. We have to live for today and love each other for every minute we have together. I love you so much and I always will. Now and forever. I promise you that we still have plenty of amazing years to look forward to together. I will never leave your side and I will never forget you." Lucifer pulled her into a tight, loving hug and then kissed her gingerly. "You're right. I should just live for today, I mean look at that sunset. I love you, thank you Luci for everything. Happy birthday." She rested her head on his shoulder and they watched the sunset.
