Part 76

After his talk with Jihoon, Junkyu didn't even waste time and immediately drove to Haruto's place. It was 12 am but he didnt care. He needed to talk to Haruto now.

Unfortunately he forgot that Haruto was in a gated community and thus he was stopped by the gate. He tried to tell them that he used to live here but they still wouldn't let him in.

So Junkyu took his phone out to call Haruto.

After a couple of rings Haruto answered in a husky voice. "Hello?"

"Haruto. It's Junkyu. I need to talk to you. I'm at your neighborhood's gate. Can you please tell the guards to let me in?"

"Junkyu?" Haruto looked at the caller ID and realised it was Junkyu. "Okay. Give me a second."

After a few moments, the guards got a call from Haruto through their intercom asking them to let Junkyu in.

When he got to Haruto's house, Haruto was already waiting for him outside. He was wearing a coat over his pajamas.

"Hey, what's wrong?" Haruto asked as soon as Junkyu got out of the car. He was quite worried.

Seeing Haruto's reaction made Junkyu feel worse. Even after being so mean to him, Haruto was still worried for him.

"Can we talk inside?"

"Of course. Come in."

Once they were inside, Haruto asked Junkyu if he wanted something to drink. Junkyu ignored him and got straight to the point.

"I want to know why."

"What? What are you talking about?" Haruto was confused.

"Why didn't you tell me you gave up your throne for me?"

Haruto almost asked how he knew but he composed himself. "I didn't, the government-"

"Don't lie to me Jihoon already told me everything."

This shut Haruto up.

"So why didn't you tell me?" Junkyu asked once again.

Haruto eventually caved in and told the truth. "I didn't want you to feel bad or responsible. It's not entirely for you anyway. I admit, you were the main reason, but I also did it for myself. I wasn't exactly happy with my life as the crown prince."

Junkyu already knew this. But hearing Haruto admit it made him weak and jelly. "Jihoon also told me that you kept investigating Cho Dohwan to add to his charges."

"Yeah. You were worried about him getting released from prison. So I tried my best to make sure he stays in it."

"What else?" Junkyu wanted to know everything. "Jihoon told me that you've done so much more for me that I don't know about. Tell me all about them."

"There's nothing else of importance really. The rest are just small things not worth mentioning."

"But I still want to know."

"I don't remember them all." Haruto really didnt want to talk about all the stuff he's done. It just feels weird. But Junkyu gave him a look which gave him no choice but to talk. "I guess I keep track of Cho Dohwan's men just in case any of them tries to get back at you."

Haruto tried to think of the others but nothing pops to his mind. "Junkyu, I really don't remember most of it. It's been years." Haruto sighed. "It's not like it would change anything."

"Of course it would!" Junkyu was extremely vexed. "I almost gave you up because I thought you didn't even like me and that we had no future together. And all this time you've been doing everything you can just for us to be together."

"It would have saved both of us a lot of pain if you just told me everything. And I would have been there for you every step of the way. You didn't have to go through that all on your own."

"I'm sorry. I thought it was the best if you didn't know. I wanted to protect you as much as I could." Haruto's head hung low in guilt.

"I know. I'm sorry I was mean to you. I was just scared you would abandon me again. So I pushed you away before you got the chance." Tears dropped from Junkyu's eyes.

"Junkyu..."

"I'm really sorry. I lied. I'm not happier without you. In fact I'm miserable without you." Junkyu confessed. His voice was shaky because he was crying.

Junkyu looked at Haruto straight in his eyes and pleaded. "Please don't leave me."

That's all it took for Haruto's restraint to crumble. He instantly pulled Junkyu in his arms to sooth him. "I won't leave." Haruto creased Junkyu's head and gave him a light kiss on his forehead. "I'll stay with you forever."
