Parker Apartment
Delilah's POV
"He's just right through in his room." Mrs. Parker points
I give her a grateful smile before walking to Peter's room, passing by a room full of boxes until I'm in front of my friend's bedroom door.
"Peter?" I ask as I knock
"Who is it?"
"Delilah." I hum
"Uhhhhhhh, come in." he drags out as I hear a bunch of things rustling around
I twist the doorknob just as it sounds like it's being unlocked, though I walk in to see Peter sitting at his desk in disheveled school clothes with his hair all messed up.
"Heyy." he smiles as his breathing calms down
"You alright?" I ask as I walk in
"Yeah just, tryin to get more fit for school..try to make P.E. a little easier."
"You don't seem to have much trouble with it now, since you came back from being sick you seem to have a lot easier time with it."
"Huh. I didn't notice." he realizes
Lie.
"What's with all the boxes in the spare room?" I ask as I take my school bag from my back
"My aunt's packing all my uncle's things that we don't need or want anymore, she plans on donating it to an elderly home or a women's shelter." he explains
"Oh..I haven't met your uncle."
"He passed away a few months ago, she doesn't want the things of his that we don't have much use for, don't hold much or any sentimental value."
"Oh, i'm sorry Peter. Wait-you said a few months ago?" I realize
"Yeah, it happened during spring break."
"You could have talked to me about it, I know i'm not your closest friend but i'm still here." I admit as I walk to sit on his bed
"Thanks, but I couldn't ask that of you."
"You don't have to, I just want you to know you're not alone." I smile gently before I look over into my school bag
"Thanks, Rosie." he nods
"Anytime. Now which class are you starting with? My first exam next week is advanced physics, though I probably should have asked my cousin to help me prep for this before I thought of accepting your study buddy idea."
"This isn't a study buddy operation." Peter chuckles
"Then what is it?"
"Hey kids, Ned's here!" Mrs. Parker announces
I find myself gasping in excitement
"It's a study party!" Peter announces as he opens his door
He leaves it open for Ned to jump up happily when he sees me, squealing and high knee jogging over to me and pulling me into a consensual hug that I happily reciprocate.
"I'll check on you guys in a little while, try to get some work done before dinner." Mrs. Parker announces as she peeks through the open doorway
"Thank you for letting me come over, Mrs. Parker." I beam
"You can call me May, you're a sweet kid Hummy." she nods
"Hummy?" I ask as I turn to look at Peter
"Short for Hummingbird." he nods
