CHAPTER 46 / OPPOSITES ATTRACT

NANA HAD FIGURED THAT SHE AND ZANE HAD BEEN DELAYING TELLING THEIR FRIENDS ABOUT THE ENGAGEMENT. To be honest, Nana had come to love and cherish the once-in-a-lifetime experience of being engaged.

She adored the confirmation of belonging to the love of her life. No one could Zane away from her now. No other woman could touch him, love him (like she did at least), belong to him, just as she could now. The engagement was the next stop before they could get married and be together until their dying breath.

For years, Nana had been able to see herself live her life with Zane, walk down the aisle into Zane's compelling arms, birth his children, and watch their kids grow up before their eyes, celebrate their wedding anniversaries as they came around and eventually grow old with him.

She couldn't wait for the limitless opportunities she could share with Zane for the rest of her life.

After Nana had lost the baby, Zane had become more protective of his girl. Fiancee. God, he loved that word. He enveloped Nana in all the love and comfort he could give. They cuddled, they kissed, they did everything his mind would come to.

Even still, the briefest brush of the hand, made butterflies take their reign through his stomach. The flustered feeling whenever she would generally catch him gazing at the girl with a cheesy grin.

He loved the marshmallow-like feeling of her ears and tail that tickled past his body as they lay in bed, the crease of her forehead when she was deep in thought, and the way her eyes would light up as something fun was considered. The blush that would rise from the apples of her cheeks when he would compliment her, the swollen texture of her lips after they kissed, the small yet noticeable dimples that appeared whenever she grinned and the frown that would form when she couldn't comprehend something.

He loved her, more than anything he could ever imagine. He was drawn to her as if their gravitational pull was magnetised to each other like negative and positive.

North and south, up and down, left and right, loud and quiet. Solitaire and collective. The two were opposites, and they attracted each other right from the start.

Nana was the best thing to ever happen to him.

~ Nana and Zane had spoken about sharing their engagement with everyone else. Would they walk down and just announce it? Perhaps.

Would they hold a party and announce it then? Reveal it to them when they least expect it. They considered the last one more than the first one. They decided to just do it and see how it turns out. Who cares what their friends think, right?

It was around lunchtime and their friends were sprawled around the commons rooms as they called it. Some were watching TV, Laurance and Dante were in an intense battle of fooseball with Vylad and Travis. Katelyn, Remmi and Garroth were making themselves lunch and the rest were somewhere around the room.

Nana grabbed Zane's hand as he took a sharp breath, interlacing their fingers. That was it.

"Guys! We have an announcement to make," Zane called, immediately reeling in their attention. Laurance used the distraction to hit one of his characters and hit the ball into his goal, sliding a point to the other side.

A devilish smirk rose on Aphmau's cheeks as if she knew what they were going to say.

Zane nervously looked at Nana and she rolled her eyes at his hesitation. "We're engaged!" She exclaimed, revealing her left hand favoured with the intricate engagement ring on her fourth finger.

No one said anything.

"Garroth, you owe me twenty bucks!" Aaron yelled. The room erupted in cheer and congratulations as the girls surrounded Nana to admire the ring. Simple, but gorgeous.

The guys gave Zane a handshake or slap on the back. Remmi congratulated her sister and cut off to Zane once the others parted.

"Hurt my sister and you'll have me, and our six brothers come after you. As for me, I'll break every bone in your body until you plead for sanity. Understood?" Remmi taunted as Zane raised his eyebrows.

"I'll be sure to keep that in mind," he replied with a polite nod. Katelyn had somehow manipulated the sweet, innocent girl into a tough assassin-like firey spirit.

Remmi seemed satisfied, turned on her heel and flounced back to her lunch.

"We have to celebrate!" Aph shrieked as she returned to her spot on the couch. "If that's okay with you guys."

"Sounds fun," Nana answered as Zane pulled his fiancee in by the waist.

"I'll be sure to plan something for you two! It's going to be perfect!" Cadenza said with a squeal. "Congratulations! I'll be upstairs planning, and don't know if I have everything I need to make it up to your standards. It'll be Saturday at two o'clock sharp."

"Can't wait!" Nana called out as Cadenza ran up the stairs with her perfect footing on each stair. Saturday afternoon was only in two days.

"So, Zane managed to get the girl before any of us could," Dante realised as he said it out loud.

"Maybe you're trying too hard," Zane pointed out buttering a slice of bread.

Aph grinned, "Dante, I bet you fifty bucks that Katelyn and Travis are engaged by the end of the next month."

"You can't be serious!" Dante protested, slamming his hands on the fooseball table. "Fine, if they're not engaged by the end of the summer, or Katelyn says no, then you owe me the fifty bucks."

Aph looked generally proud of herself, "Deal."

Dante turned back to Laurance and whispered, "Where the hell am I going to get fifty bucks?"

"You're ridiculous," Katelyn said as she rolled her eyes and took a bite of her sandwich.

"Katelyn, look. You caught the bouquet at my wedding, you're bound to get married next. And I'm 99.9% sure you're marrying Travis," Aph said glaring at the two of them. Both Travis' and Katelyn's cheeks turned a light scarlet as they avoided eye contact with one another.

"Not that I would mind that, though," Travis mumbled.

Katelyn threw a book at him.
