A few years earlier and Cayetana would have probably started a riot for women's rights after the thing with Diego, but she too had grown up over time.

Life had not always been fair to her — especially when it came to love.

It was not the first time that she had been played with or used. Only it had been the first time where she herself had used a boy as a pawn and to whom — to her luck — she had not yet given her heart.

She owed that to Pablo Gavira.
From whom she had heard nothing all day except for the one message.

Again and again she had caught herself looking at her screen and waiting for a notification, but nothing came.

It was not unexpected and yet the strange feeling in her stomach grew stronger the more time passed.

Maybe he had changed his mind and considered the whole thing a big mistake — which it actually would be.

On the other hand, he was also a professional athlete who had to follow a well-planned daily routine.

After she arrived back home she found only her parents. So she had no choice but to spend the rest of the afternoon with them, which helped her to put Pablo out of her mind.

At least until he entered the house together with Pedri.

Just then she sat with her parents at the kitchen table and looked together with them at old photos.

Her mother loved to reminisce, so it wasn't even rare, and yet it was always a nice way to think back to those times.

"Pepi look, you were so small and yet you already had the biggest grin ever".

Pedri glanced over his mother's shoulders and shook his head with a slight smile.

"Mama you say that every time you look at the photos and if I'm honest, I almost like the current ones better".

"Now don't brag, big brother," came from Cayetana, who managed to loosen her gaze that had been glued to the photo to look at the two new additions.

Now actually only to cast an inconspicuous glance at Pablo. The latter, however, was busy greeting her parents. Not once did he turn to her.

That was like a punch in the stomach. Instantly, the smile faded from her face.

It had been a stupid idea to talk herself into something good. It had not been expected otherwise.

"Everything okey Caye?"

The question that came from her father snapped her out of her thoughts, made her head swing in the other direction.

Now not being confronted with his face, she nodded.

"I'm fine. I think I'll retire. You can now force them to look through all the photo albums from the beginning," she answered the question as she hurriedly stood up.

Escape was her only way out of this misery.

Without responding to the confused looks of her family, she left the dining room as fast as her legs could carry her and retreated to her room.
