Chapter 31: Different Destination

(Sasuke's P.O.V)

We're running through the forest, heading to Konoha. Then Madara suddenly appears out of nowhere.

"Sasuke.."

He calls to me and we stop.

"How did you know where I was?"

I ask.

"Don't take my powers lightly."

"Hn. What do you want? The Taka has left the Akatsuki. We have no more business with you."

"I warned you that you will die if you betrayed the Akatsuki. And now you've broken your pact with me."

"What are you talking about?"

"The Biju hunt."

"But we've already captured and handed over Eight Tails to you!"

Karin yells, annoyed.

"That was a substitution. In short, you failed."

We all look at him in shock.

"Looks like Eight Tails pulled a fast one on you, Sasuke. Honestly, you've disappointed me."

'But I was watching him the whole time with my sharingan... There shouldn't have been any opportunity for him to make a clone. Wait, it must of been when I cut off one of the legs.'

"So... What do you want us to do about it?! It's not our business anymore!"

Suigetsu yells.

"I disagree... You will complete the task you were assigned. Although it won't be Eight Tails. I have decided to have you carry out a different mission."

"And if we decline?"

I ask.

"Then we will fight here, and you won't get to go to Konoha."

I activate my sharingan.

"Push through!"

I attack Madara with my chidori, but I goes right through him.

"Besides, your objective seems so futile now... How sad."

"What do you mean?"

"The village of Konohagakure is no more."

"No more!? What the heck is that supposed to mean!?!?"

Karin yells.

"That, I can explain."

A deep voice say as a plant-like man comes out of the ground.

"Who's that creepy guy?"

Karin asks.

"He's an associate. So, Zetsu... Who's the Hokage now?"

'New Hokage?'

"That Danzo fellow."

"As I had anticipated."

"Danzo...is Hokage??"

I ask and they nod.

"That's right, one of the Konoha elders who backed your dear older brother into a corner. He has become the new Hokage."

"...What in the world happened in Konoha?!"

"My underling, Pain destroyed Konoha. And thanks to both you and Pain showing off, even the Kage seem to have started moving."

"Hn. The Five Shadows, huh... Lily had told me something about them before."
