Demi's POV:

By far the scariest thing I've ever had to deal with is being the guardian of a sick child. Don't get me wrong, I love Anna to death and would do anything for her, but I just felt like I'm doing everything wrong. I was terrified that if I make the wrong choice it could end up costing her health.

I watched Anna closely as she had the thermometer in her mouth. I had her so she was laying down in the tub. She was shivering and I could see her lips turning blue, but I knew that her being cold was a small price to pay for keeping her out of the hospital.

"Okay open up." I said, taking the thermometer out of her mouth to check her temperature after it beeped.

I was hoping for something less than 103 at the very least, but what I saw terrified me. Without even reading off the number, I ran to grab my phone, undoubtedly leaving Anna confused.

"Demi?" Anna croaked as I rushed back into the bathroom, typing 911 into my key pad.

I didn't have time to answer Anna as the dispatcher picked up within two rings.

"911, what is your emergency?" A lady's voice asked.

"My daughter has cancer and we were told that fevers are very serious in this case. She had a fever of 103 a little while ago so I called her oncologist and he said to try a cold bath to bring it down. However, I've been doing that and it hasn't gone down. In fact it's 104 right now!" I rushed out, looking at Anna as her face turned into one of panic.

Her shivering only seemed to increase and tears began to roll down her face. She was clutching onto the side of the bathtub, her knuckles turning white.

"Okay, okay. We've tracked your location through your phone and are sending an ambulance now." The dispatcher said.

I quickly thanked her before hanging up to attend to Anna who was panicking by now.

"Baby, baby, calm down it's okay. You're gonna be okay." I tried to sooth, running my hand through her wet hair.

"I want out!" She sobbed, reaching up for me.

In that moment she seemed like such a helpless child. I knew she was thirteen almost fourteen, but she was always gonna be my baby.

"Shh, shh, okay, I'll get you out." I reasoned, figuring since the bath wasn't helping at all I might as well just take her out.

I grabbed a huge, fluffy towel and reached out of her, picking her fragile body up and wrapping her in the towel. She continued to shiver and shake as I dried her off.

I didn't want her to get too warm so once she was dry, I pulled the towel away from her and lay her on my bed, over the covers.

"I... need... clothes." Anna stuttered out between her teeth chattering.

I gave her a sympathetic look. I knew I needed to keep her as cool as possible, but also didn't want her to feel completely naked.

"I know. I'll get you something." I said, digging through the laundry basket that was in my room.

It was mostly just my workout clothes, but eventually I found a pair of Anna's tighty whiteys and some running shorts. I figured she they wouldn't bring her temperature up any more so I walked back over to her.

She was laying flat on the bed with her eyes closed and her teeth chattering. I felt terrible for her. I gently reached my hand out and touched her leg and she jolted her eyes open.

"It's okay." I soothed, holding up a pair of underwear to show that I intended to put them on her.

She gave a weak nodded so I guided them onto her legs until they were secured around her waist. I did the same with the shorts, but left her top half bare; she needed to cool down as much as possible.

"Okay baby girl, let's go wait downstairs." I said, lifting her small body off of the bed.

Despite having been in an ice bath, her skin was hot to the touch. I was so worried because that meant the fever could have been even higher by now. I was just glad I had called the ambulance.

I cradled Anna in my arms as I walked down stairs. She didn't say a word, but would whimper occasionally. I went straight to the room closest to the front door so that we could immediately get her to the paramedics and sat down on the couch.

As we waited, questions swarmed my mind, but the most prominent was this: what affect would this have on her egg collection procedure?
