I had suffered through an awful dream that night. Well, I'm not even sure if it could be called a dream. It was more like physically living inside my mind for a while. I controlled my thoughts, I saw clips of my memories, I even spoke to myself.

In my mental world, I found myself staring at the engagement ring I was given. I relieved the fear of being restrained. I saw Sebastian on the streets the first night I met him. My memories flashed forward to the man who claimed he was Serafin embracing me. What he said to me replayed.

Before I could fully comprehend the situation, my mind had ventured elsewhere.

I saw the image of Serafin laying on the ground, his throat sliced by the demon, but his final words still echoing in the darkness. I looked up at Sebastian from where I was kneeling beside the corpse. Black feathers swirled around in the air. Blood streaked down his face and body. In his clawed hand, he held a single blue rose. He looked right back at me with his brilliant red eyes, his mouth slightly open to reveal fangs. He looked horrified, anguished...

"I'm sorry."
